Summary



The Vice President, HR, also referred to as regional HRBP, is responsible for aligning business objectives with employees and management in designated business units. The position formulates partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added service to management and employees that reflects the business objectives of the organization. The HRBP maintains an effective level of business literacy about the business unit's financial position, its midrange plans, its culture and its competition. This role serves as the lead for American President Lines, LLC and its affiliated entities in North America. It aligns functionally to the Chief People Officer, North America. The role is supported by centralized centers of excellence and oversees an onshore, geographically dispersed workforce of employees in the maritime shipping industry. The workforce is a blend of represented and non-represented employees.



Responsibilities




  • Assesses and anticipates HR related needs; Analyzes workforce trends and metrics to develop recommendations and solutions, programs and policies. Actively contributes to the budget process for the organization
  • Collaborates with HR and cross-functional stakeholders as part of a shared service model. Provides guidance and input to business related to talent acquisition, talent development, performance management, talent retention, talent engagement, training, business unit restructures, workforce planning, and succession planning
  • Actively influences and recommends Labor Relations approach and strategy, providing clear definition of HR role in the labor relations process and executing in coordination with CHRO, shared services, Labor Relations
  • Partner with management to identify staffing plan and partner with Talent Acquisition to execute recruitment strategy
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partners with the legal department as needed/required. Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation.
  • Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention. Provides day to day performance management guidance to line management (e.g. coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
  • Identifies training needs for business units and individual management development needs. Participates in evaluation and monitoring of training programs to ensure success. Follows up to ensure training objectives are met.



Requirements




  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, HR, Labor Relations or related field.
  • Juris Doctorate (JD) with employment law focus preferred.
  • 10+ years Human Resources experience, including 5+ years of HRBP/HR Generalist with a Union workforce.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of employment law at Federal and State levels.
  • Strong oral, written, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Executive-level presentation experience including proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Preferred experience in transportation, logistics or maritime shipping industries.
