Job Description:

SUMMARY

Under general supervision, prepares routine plans, designs, specifications, estimates, and reports. Oversee the Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process for assigned parts.

RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Apply technical engineering and drafting techniques in the preparation of engineering drawings and other materials using computer-aided drafting.
  • Maintain revision level necessary to define product configuration and control manufacturing processes.
  • Communicate new products and engineering changes to appropriate departments.
  • Manage quotes and price adjustments to customers following the ECN process.
  • Work with process partners to develop costs for new models and engineering change projects.
  • Record and maintain all pricing and costing information for assigned parts.
  • Process product and process change notices and maintains continuity of BOM for assigned parts.
  • Actively seek and recommend ways to improve products, equipment, tooling and processes to increase overall quality, productivity, capacity, lead times and gross margins
  • Consult with clients, vendors, or others to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Assist in tooling purchase requisitions and manage tooling delivery.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining multiple computer controlled documents.
  • Participate in new model development team and assist Production with samples.
  • Participate in proactive continuous improvement activities to improve processes.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or related field.
  • Prefer a Bachelor's or Graduate degree in product design.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a product design role.
  • Proficient in reading engineering drawings, CAD software, Solid Works preferred, drawing capabilities
  • PPAP process proficiency and working with customers and suppliers on feasibility reviews
  • Strong demonstrated understanding of plastics manufacturing properties processes and capabilities, roto molding and vacuum forming preferred.
  • Experience dealing with mold designing and production is a plus

PHYSICAL AND COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS

Must possess ability to read, analyze, interpret and organize general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Must be able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals in a professional manner. Must have ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from coworkers, managers, and customers.

Must be able to calculate figures and amounts such as area, circumference, distance, and volume.

Must possess ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands for computer work and paperwork; and reach with hands and arms (filing paperwork at, above, and below shoulder height). The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
