Job Description:

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Communicates in an effective and positive manner with physicians, members of the department and organization.

Performs surgical services functions in the clinical area within scope of training and licensure/certification as necessary to maintain patient safety and efficiency in daily operations.

Keeps physicians and staff appraised of all instruments, supply, and equipment changes and the potential impact on surgical patient care.

Assists in maintaining the budget for non-labor expenses by utilizing resources appropriately.

Coordinates logistics and use of all supplies and equipment used in Surgical Services operations.

Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment.

  • Reviews surgery schedule in advance, to have needed supplies and equipment available.
  • Communicates with Materials Management Department to maintain adequate PAR levels and min/max levels of OR and departmental supplies.
  • Makes recommendations on slow moving inventory, for additions/deletions from inventory.
  • Initiates purchase orders under $1,500.00 and verifies ordered items are received. Follows up on items that are not received in a timely manner and communicates this information to the Materials M1µ1agement Department.
  • Reviews invoices from vendors to ensure correct prices, quantities, etc.
  • Works with Materials Management Department to ensure compliance with purchasing contracts.
  • Works directly with Director concerning product changes and inventory problems.
  • Maintains inventory control by monitoring established inventory reorder levels.
  • Checks received supplies from Materials Management Department tci verify receipt of correct supplies, and correct labeling of received supplies.

Assumes responsibility for the accurate charging of supplies used for patient care and surgical procedures.

  • Ensures accurate pricing for special order items and communicates surgical charging with Department Secretary.
  • Periodically reviews/audits patient charging for accuracy and completeness.

Responsible for the coordination and implementation of new products and equipment for use in surgical departments. ·

  • Researches supplies and equipment needed for new surgeons and/or procedures.
  • Coordinates the introduction of new items to surgical staff via in-services by sales representatives and vendors.
  • Acts as on-site resource for the operation of new equipment as needed.
  • Completes capital budget requests.

Coordinates instrument repairs.

  • In conjunction with the Clinical Coordinator, assures that instruments and equipment are in proper working condition.
  • Prepares and sends instruments in need of repair to Material Management Department for the proper disposition and repair of all surgical instruments not maintained by JMH's biomedical department. Follows up with Materials Management Department for the timely return of repaired equipment.
  • Acts as the liaison between Biomedical Department and surgical services departments for all equipment repairs.
  • Communicates repair needs to Director prior to the removal of any equipment from the department.
  • Ensures loaner instruments are available, if necessary.
  • Communicates all equipment repair/replacement concerns to staff.

Schedules surgery procedures.

Serves on JMH committees as appropriate.

Works to meet departmental and organizational quality goals.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Clearly communicates and, continuously supports the-Mission and Values of Johnson Memorial Health.

Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and Johnson Memorial Health policies and procedures including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

Must have current surgical technician certification and have one year of experience working as a CST; Must maintain current BLS or CPR for Healthcare Providers certification. First line inventory and ordering experience preferred.
