Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.

Position Summary:

All openpositions are Hybrid & On-site, and employees are expected to be on-site as per their approved schedule.

This position is 100% on-site at the Wellesley Hills campus of MassBayCommunity College. The ideal candidate will join a vibrant and inclusiveeducational community, and have a desire and ability to work with a diversepopulation. This is a part-time, non-unit position with no benefits.

This role will be responsible for assisting the Lab Technician in supportingand maintaining science laboratory instruction work across anatomy andphysiology, biology, chemistry, environmental science, microbiology courses atthe Wellesley Hills campus. This person will need to work on evenings and weekendsas needed. This position is temporary, through 12/21/2024.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist the Lab Technician by setting up STEM laboratory experiments, including preparing chemical solutions, buffers, and biological cultures following appropriate lab safety protocols as required;
  • Provide support to teaching faculty and students in anatomy and physiology, biology, chemistry, environmental science, and microbiology courses as needed;
  • Maintain careful order of STEM laboratory equipment that is organized in the STEM labs and preparation areas;
  • Ensure cleanliness and safety of laboratory spaces and perform related duties including, but not limited to, light custodial duties, sterilization of equipment and glassware, and washing of glassware;
  • Follow laboratory-related SOPs, e.g., maintaining logs of temperatures and pressures of key equipment, and recommend updates, as needed, to SOPs;
  • Assist the Laboratory Technician with inventory of supplies and technical needs related to experiments and laboratory exercises in courses in the listed science courses;
  • Inform and recommend to the Laboratory Technician appropriate laboratory instructional tools and equipment purchase needs (laboratory supplies, etc.) with attention to cost, quality, and full functionality;
  • Participate in assigned laboratory safety training as needed;
  • Carry out weekend and evening duties, as assigned; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in anatomy & physiology, biology, chemistry, environmental science, or microbiology, or a closely related degree program in science;
  • Knowledge of standard laboratory operation and coordination (safety protocols, waste labeling and disposal, inventory control) and the ability to operate a wide variety of standard lab equipment;
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare stock chemical solutions;
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety and hazardous waste containment procedures;
  • Proficiency in MS Office (e.g., Word, Excel, OneDrive) used to track inventory, related computer proficiency, and proficiency in communication with internal/external business offices as required; and
  • Proven ability to work with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.

PreferredQualifications:

  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity;
  • Experience working in a diverse environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students;
  • Experience with chemical and hazardous waste, industrial hygiene, and/or environmental health;
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in biology or chemistry or a closely related discipline.

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $32.64 per hour

Position Type: PT - Seasonal/ Temporary
