Job Description:

The Department of Leadership, Policy, and Organizations (LPO) at Peabody College of Education and Human Development at Vanderbilt University invites applications for the position of open rank tenured or tenure-track faculty of Early Childhood Policy.

We seek outstanding candidates with research and teaching interests related to early childhood development, learning, and policy, and whose work includes a global or comparative perspective. We are primarily interested in candidates whose work focuses on policies or programs that promote childrens early development and learning, and whose work informs national and global policy action. The candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with other Vanderbilt faculty to develop and launch a new Center on Research in Early Development and Learning.

The Department is searching for someone with significant research experience and scholarly impact. Senior applicants should demonstrate a strong track record in securing external funding while junior applicants should show potential for external funding. Candidates should also have a history working collaboratively with colleagues, practice partners, and international organizations (all commensurate with rank). We seek a scholar trained in policy, education, human development, economics, sociology, or another related field whose work focuses on applied research that informs policy or practice and that includes a global focus.

LPO is committed to hiring a colleague who can make contributions to teaching in early childhood development, learning, and policy across our various degree programs, especially in our undergraduate human and organization development track, and our masters in public policy certificate in early childhood program. The successful candidate will have experience mentoring and training doctoral students for careers in academia and/or research organizations, and commitments to teaching undergraduate and professional degree students.

The mission of the Department of Leadership, Policy, and Organizations (LPO) is to understand and improve the political, economic, organizational, and social contexts in which human learning takes place. The department embraces a range of disciplinary traditions and encourages multiple methodological approaches in the study and instruction of education policy and practice. Faculty within LPO work collaboratively with Peabody faculty in the other four departments of the College and across the University and Medical Center.

The department operates highly regarded programs at the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral level, including five professional masters degree programs; an on-campus Ed.D. program in K12 and in higher education leadership and policy; an online masters and Ed.D. in leadership and learning in organizations; a Ph.D. program in K12 and in higher education leadership and policy; and an undergraduate degree in Human and Organizational Development.
