The Large Financial Banking Organizations (LFBO) Division within the Supervision and Regulation (S&R) Department of The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago is seeking candidates for a position focusing on the assessment of non-financial risks within a large and complex financial institution.
The Lead Large Bank Examiner will be responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of a large and complex financial institution’s governance and controls framework, internal audit program and management of a core line of business. The individual will lead supervisory assessments and examinations over corporate governance, enterprise risk management, management of business lines, internal controls, and audit functions, that supports the identification, measurement, assessment, and control of the full spectrum of risks. This individual will also as be responsible for managing relationships with bank management, regulatory agencies, risk specialists, and system counterparts and groups.
Additionally, as a member of a large bank dedicated supervisory team, the individual will participate in assessing the institution's risk management practices across other risk topics. Resource workload permitting, the individual may also be engaged in other team, department, and system initiatives.

Your Responsibilities:


  • Consults on and serves as a senior technical expert in assigned risk areas for a broad range of supervisory issues that impact the department, District and System.

  • Leads and influences ongoing supervision efforts of a large and complex institution, such as examinations, continuous monitoring events, and system horizontal and coordinated reviews.

  • Leads others in the preparation, presentation and review of summary documents, such as reports of examination and conclusion memoranda, continuous monitoring and risk assessments, and other supervisory correspondence and documentation of large and complex institutions.

  • Develops, prioritizes and influences examination scopes/supervisory activities, timelines, and milestones for large or specialized institutions.

  • Leads and facilitates the incorporation of the team’s analysis across different risk stripes/lines of business into a holistic assessment of the institution’s overarching Governance and Control environment.

  • Leads the creation of quality and timely reports, documents and other correspondence of varying complexity to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Maintains an understanding of key risk management perspectives from other regulatory agencies, proactively implements strategies to collect peer agency views on a timely basis, act as key stakeholder within peer agency reviews, and holistically integrate other regulatory perspectives to help inform the team's supervisory assessments.

  • Builds and maintains strategic working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, such as other Reserve Banks, the Board of Governors, and other domestic and global regulatory agencies. This also includes developing relationships, while maintaining independence, with institution management to further supervisory efforts.

  • Proactively serves as a mentor and/or coach by advising others, identifying training needs of less experienced staff members and providing technical expertise, guidance/training and constructive feedback to all levels of staff and management.

  • Supports the assigned supervisory team by leading and/or participating in supervisory planning, annual roll-up and other such supervisory activities.

Your Background:


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

  • Possesses ten plus years of direct work-related experience.

  • Expertise in topic areas listed above.

  • Demonstrates highly advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrates independent thinking and decision-making abilities as well as have advanced written and oral communication abilities.

  • Possesses the ability to coach/guide and provide guidance and constructive feedback to all levels of staff.

  • Possesses strong teamwork skills and the ability to build and work collaboratively within and across teams, including with individuals from external organizations.

  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively lead and influence a team to resolve complex to highly complex issues without authority.

  • Demonstrates the ability to manage time and projects effectively by adjusting quickly to new and different priorities.

  • Possesses a general business acumen.

  • A Federal Reserve System Examiner Commission or is progressing towards such is preferred.

Location:

This is a hybrid position. Your presence will be expected at one of the 7th District offices—Chicago, Des Moines or Detroit

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 25%.


  • This position requires access to confidential supervisory information and/or FOMC information, which is limited to "Protected Individuals" as defined in the U.S. federal immigration law. Protected Individuals include, but are not limited to, U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, and U.S. permanent residents who either are not yet eligible to apply for naturalization or who have applied for naturalization within the requisite timeframe.   • This position has additional screening requirements due to the information accessed while performing the job.
