JOB DESCRIPTION



Wood is currently recruiting for a Mechanical Designer with experience in the chemical manufacturing industry. You will be responsible for design work supporting facility-based projects in an active chemical manufacturing plant as part of that plant's capital project's group.

Authorization to work permanently in the U.S. without sponsorship required.



RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Perform design and drafting of process systems including high pressure (~40 KPSI) process systems such as high-pressure piping, valves, and tubing.
  • Complete designs requiring considerable field design/drafting experience and the use of mathematical and computer skills to create functional and effective designs.
  • Work from sketches and verbal information supplied by engineers, process area representatives, and others to prepare designs that meet the process needs and constructability requirements using independent judgment in selecting and interpreting data based on knowledge of the design intent and using required information from engineer's drawings & sketches, manufacturer's catalogues, technical guides, codes, standards, SEPs, RAGAGEPs, field survey notes, etc.
  • Develop mechanical design packages with complete sets of mechanical drawings which focus on clearness, completeness accurate geometric dimensioning and tolerancing of the design, and drafting presentation.
  • Interface with other disciplines as required to efficiently develop mechanical design deliverables.
  • Keep the project leader and team informed of progress, design issues, and/or changes that might impact schedule or man-hour budgets.
  • Review other designer's work to assure compliance with engineering design sketches and calculations, applicable design codes, fabrication and constructability, industry standards, clearness, completeness/ dimensional accuracy of the design, and drafting presentation.
  • Support and participate in activities that enhance the current Safety Culture at the Site.





QUALIFICATIONS



  • Associates Degree in Design preferred.
  • 15+ years of practical and applicable industrial design experience.
  • Familiar with industrial facility safety policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of industrial processes, fabrication and construction techniques, equipment, design philosophies, codes, industry standards, and practices.
  • Experience designing process systems for high pressure processes (40 KPSI and/or above).
  • Experience with ASME Section VIII, Div. 2 Design by analysis, ASME Section VIII Div. 3 Construction of High-Pressure Vessels, ASME B31.1 High Pressure Process Piping, and other applicable industry codes, standards, and practices for design of process systems.
  • Skilled in the use of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Experience using E3D, PDMS, MicroStation or other 3D CAD systems
  • Good skills with MS Office software.
  • Ability to obtain data from field observations.
  • Self-starter and highly motivated, with minimum supervision.
  • Effective communication, organizational, designing, and "people" skills.
  • Experience with PTC Creo Suit of engineering software a plus
  • Experience working with laser scans as part of the design process a plus
  • Experience with Navisworks and it's use as a tool to integrate laser scans into 3D models a plus
  • Experience working with Grayloc® products a plus
