Multiple Openings: Vice Chair(s) of Strategic Engagement

The Indiana University School of Medicine is seeking dynamic leaders for three newly created positions.

Three vice chair of strategic engagement positions are available, representing:

  • Department of Emergency Medicine
  • Departments of Neurological Surgery and Otolaryngology (joint position)
  • Department of Psychiatry

These are extraordinary opportunities to drive transformative initiatives in one of the nation's leading medical schools.

Position Overview

The vice chairs of strategic engagement will work closely with the executive dean for equity and inclusion and the Center for Inclusive Excellence to spearhead initiatives that align with IU School of Medicine's strategic priorities. Vice chairs will play pivotal roles in shaping the futures of their respective departments by fostering a culture of inclusivity.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership in inclusive excellence:

Develop and sustain initiatives that:

  • promote workforce retention through inclusion and belonging
  • enhance representational diversity
  • advance cultural humility and intellectual diversity within the department

Health equity advocacy:

Implement evidence-based strategies to address health equity, ensuring that IU School of Medicine continues to be at the forefront of equitable healthcare delivery.

Collaborative vision-setting: Partner with department chairs, other vice chairs, division chiefs and departmental leaders to articulate and execute a shared vision for inclusive excellence that aligns with the broader goals of the IU School of Medicine.

Resource and program development: Leverage resources and administrative support from IU School of Medicine to create and maintain impactful programs that reflect the strategic vision of the department and the school.


Qualifications

An ideal candidate will have:

  • A record of leadership in inclusive excellence initiatives at the local, regional or national level.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and leading collaborative teams across departments.
  • A doctorate or terminal degree (e.g., MD, DO, EdD, PhD) (required), with board certification where applicable.

While direct experience in inclusive excellence within medicine is preferred, candidates with a proven commitment to these principles in related fields are encouraged to apply.
