Job Details:

The Department of Biology at Mercer University is seeking to hire four tenure-track Assistant Professors on the Macon, Georgia campus.

We are searching for:

• 3 tenure-track positions to teach Introduction to Biology and Genetics, and upper-division courses. We have a particular need in Microbiology, and other upper courses may include Development, Immunology, Virology, or Biochemistry.

• 1 tenure-track position to teach Introduction to Biology and Neurobiology, along with intermediate and upper-division courses.

All faculty positions are full time with nine-month contracts that require teaching, scholarship, and service.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include teaching five to six courses (21 hours) per academic year at the undergraduate level, including either of our two-semester introductory biology courses, either an intermediate genetics or plant and animal physiology course, and some upper division specialty courses according to the applicant’s area of expertise. In addition, the successful candidate will support the work of the department by carrying out biological research with undergraduates, advising students, developing new elective courses in the discipline, and promoting the Biology Program at regular university events. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue a scholarship of discovery agenda and provide service to the college, university, and academy.

Qualifications:

A Ph.D. degree in biological science or a related field from an accredited college/university is required. ABD candidates will be considered at the rank of Instructor at a lower salary rate until the Ph.D. is obtained. Additionally, we are also interested in applicants who can contribute to our interdisciplinary majors of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology as well as Neuroscience. A promise of excellence in teaching and scholarly activity in the context of a liberal arts college, interest in research involving undergraduate students, and membership in Phi Beta Kappa are considered added advantages.
