Your Role:

The purpose of the sales representative role in Elanco is to create demand and secure sales by professionally promoting, differentiating, delivering and demonstrating the value of Elanco products and services to customers and the people who influence their product use decisions.  Sales representatives are held accountable for delivering sales results, managing territory business plan and/or large strategic accounts, aligning Elanco activities with account needs, and creating strategic territory/account plans and implementing agreed upon initiatives in those plans.

Your Responsibilities:


  • Plan, analyze and execute territory, account and budget plans to meet performance objectives for Elanco dairy business.  

  • Demonstrate technical fluency by successfully positioning Elanco products and services through key messages, scientific information and product expertise. 

  • Generate demand for Elanco products to current and potential Elanco customers including dairy producers, dairy nutritionists, feedmills, retailers, veterinary clinics and other key influencers within the designated sales territory.

  • Effectively leverage distribution (both feed and packaged goods) to ensure pull through of Elanco dairy products. 

  • Implement and appropriately execute selling cycles, marketing programs and initiatives.

  • Plan and implement territory specific sales promotions, selling meetings and key customer outings and incentives. 

  • Create additional value for customers while balancing time, managing territory resources and selling the Elanco portfolio.

What You Need to Succeed (minimum qualifications):



  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or relevant experience.


  • Required Experience: 3+ years experience in dairy nutrition, food animal business or sales. Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Elanco does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position.

What Will Give You the Competitive Edge (preferred qualifications):


  • 3 years sales experience and/or 5 years of experience in the beef and/or dairy industry

  • Knowledge of dairy production including economics and key drivers

  • Working knowledge or willing to learn principles of livestock sustainability marketplace

  • Ability to influence without authority

  • Strong learning agility

  • Passion for animal agriculture

  • Territory/location: I-29 dairy geography- SD, Iowa, SW MN


  • Travel: Some overnight travel may be required (25-50%).

    Elanco currently anticipates that the base salary for this position could range from $82,600.00 to $137,600.00 depending partly on the successful candidate’s qualifications, including education and experience. Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending partly on company and individual performance). Additionally, Elanco offers a comprehensive benefit program to eligible employees that includes a company-matching 401(k); vacation benefits; eligibility for medical, dental, vision, and prescription drug benefits; flexible benefits (e.g., healthcare and/or dependent day care flexible spending accounts); life insurance and death ­benefits; certain time off and leave of absence benefits; and well-being benefits (e.g., employee assistance program, fitness benefits, and employee clubs and activities). Of course, the compensation is subject to change and could be higher or lower than the range described above.
