This position is responsible for facilitating the successful completion of automated material handling systems through installation, testing, and debugging of the system, modifying equipment and software, and providing customer training and support.



Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Mentor team members
  • Hold a daily review with direct team members
  • Set daily goals, review progress, give ideas/examples on how to solve a difficult problem.
  • Recognize when a team member is struggling and work with them to prevent delays.
  • Provide feedback to Systems Installation Manager on Team Member’s strengths and areas of improvements.

Project Responsibilities:

  • Must be fully aware of project requirements. Has read the project requirements document, has participated in the host design review, etc.
  • Must be fully aware of vehicle capabilities. This includes setup, configuration, sensor behavior, sensor calibration, etc.
  • Must know current status of project budget and project completion. Must update form with this information at least once a week.
  • Must review status of project with Project Manager, discuss any project delays, scope changes, etc. with System Installation Manager and work on new plan with Systems Installation Manager and Project Manager.
  • Must work with Systems Installation Manager and Test Supervisor to set up team member to work with Test Supervisor during the test process. Determine who, how long and if the Team Lead should be there for part of it as well.
  • Help to recognize when there is a problem, help to pinpoint problem, then work with Systems Installation Manager to decide who can best help to solve the problem. This may be the Team Lead, or it may be a member from a different group.
  • Participate and provide feedback in design reviews, code reviews, navigation reviews, blocking reviews, bumper reviews, etc.
  • Contribute as engineer on projects, to maintain skills.

Process:

  • Work with Systems Installation Manager brainstorm ideas on how to improve process.
  • Help Systems Installation Manager to improve the process for design reviews, code reviews, navigation reviews, blocking reviews, bumper reviews, etc.
  • Update training materials, run training sessions and update knowledge base
  • Ensure Kaarta 3D Mapping is collected, and map extracted.
  • Ensure Deadlock Detect tool is run for projects before the first site visit and throughout the installation process.
  • Ensure CMF (Change Management Form) are filled out and approved.
  • Travels to customer sites at key times such as during initial vehicle commissioning, integration and/or punch list resolution. Overnight travel expectation of 50-70%.
  • Other responsibilities and duties, as may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position supervises the work of (3-5) Systems Installation Engineers in a projectized matrixed organization.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience

Bachelors of Science degree (B.S.) or (B.S.E.T) in Engineering discipline, or the equivalent education and experience.


Minimum of one to three years’ experience installing automated systems at customer sites. Experience managing project budgets and schedules preferred.

Previous experience coaching and mentoring newly hired engineers, technicians and other technical staff highly preferred.

Language Skills

Ability to communicate highly technical information across the organization and tailor communication as needed to less technical personnel. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and Work Instructions / Technical Notes. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, engineers and/or customers.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistics, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Familiarity with controls theory, including PID loops and mathematical models of systems control.

Other Competencies

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and electrical schematics
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Visio, etc.)
  • Familiar with SQL
  • Vehicle software experience required
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally and maintain a valid passport.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
