Job Description:

The Hanover College Department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for a tenure-track position in Physicsstart August 2025. We seek a dynamic and dedicated individual who is passionate about teaching and committed to engaging a diverse undergraduate population in a liberal arts setting. A Ph.D. in Physics or closely adjacent field (e.g., Physical Chemistry, Engineering Physics, Astronomy);A.B.D. will be considered, but degree must be earned prior to the start date. Other required qualifications include demonstrated excellence in teaching physics at the undergraduate level, the ability to teach a wide variety of undergraduate courses typically, and the ability to contribute to a diverse and inclusive academic community.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching a wide range of undergraduate courses in physics and/or astronomy, including introductory laboratories.
  • Implementing inclusive pedagogical approaches that foster active learning and critical thinking.
  • Mentoring undergraduate students in academic pursuits.
  • Representing the department at on-campus Admission events.
  • Contributing to the academic community through participation in departmental and college-wide efforts.

About the Department

In addition to the Physics major, the department traditionally serves students from Engineering, Chemistry, and Biochemistry. Furthermore, the department interacts with many non-science majors via its regular offering of astronomy courses (one per term). We are interested in candidates who will contribute to the intellectual vibrancy of our academic community through their teaching, research, and service, and who are committed to working effectively with an academically diverse student population.
