Job Description:

The Position:The Geology Department at Hanover College,the oldest in the state of Indiana and one of the oldest in the Midwest region, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-eligible faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to start in August 2025. Our faculty offer a hands-on, field-oriented program in a residential, undergraduate setting, with majors in geology and environmental geology. We seek an individual with a strong background in paleontology, sedimentology, and stratigraphy with preference given to those with additional expertise in petrology and/or structural geology. The candidate is expected to teach within our Geology and Environmental Geology majors, as well as serve various administrative functions within the department and college wide. A Ph.D. is required at the time of appointment.

Qualifications:The Department is committed to the recruitment and success of students from underrepresented groups in Geology and we are especially interested in recruiting candidates who will contribute to the diversity and inclusiveness of the academic community through their teaching, research, and service. Candidates should demonstrate outstanding skills and enthusiasm for teaching a broad range of introductory and advanced geoscience courses, including field geology, teaching and advising undergraduate students in the liberal arts tradition, and the ability to develop a robust research program involving field and laboratory settings.

Responsibilities:The successful candidate will teach two laboratory-based courses during each of our Fall and Winter semesters, as well as one course during our Spring semester (often an off-campus field geology course). Teaching duties will include our introductory course in physical geology, intermediate courses in mineralogy/petrology, paleontology, and field geology, as well as advanced courses in sedimentology and/or structural geology. In addition, the candidate must have a strong interest in and commitment to teaching and mentoring students, including minorities, women, or members of other underrepresented groups, and is expected to develop joint faculty-student research initiatives.
