Lab Research Technician will serve as an animal research specialist and will provide husbandry and surgical support for small animal research projects within the Chairman’s division of the Department of Surgery. The specialist will work with multiple PI groups to maintain mouse colonies, including weaning, tagging, and genotyping. The incumbent will also be trained in animal surgical procedures (including cecal ligation and puncture, liver ischemia/reperfusion, and hemorrhagic shock) and may be asked to assist with surgeries or to perform as the lead surgeon. This position requires excellent organization skills in order to manage a large animal colony and also to appropriately document surgical procedures and subsequent tissue collection. In addition to coordinating mouse colony management among several principal investigators, the individual will also be responsible for interfacing with surgical residents, students, and other lab personnel to complete support tasks for them as needed. The applicant should be highly motivated to learn, detail-oriented, able to prioritize multiple tasks and work independently.
Performs a variety of independent and complex laboratory work and experiments. Analyzes and interprets data, compiles results, and prepares reports. Maintains inventory, ordering, and logs. Writes manuscripts and grant proposals and prepares data visualizations.
Must be fluent in English. Must be comfortable handling animals. Must have hand dexterity.
Light
Little physical effort required. Duties are primarily sedentary. May be required to move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally.
