This role will work closely with the Senior Director of Student and Academic Affairs on school-wide events including orientation and graduation. There is significant focus on building and maintaining activities and interactions to help entering students learn more about their opportunities at Pitt, make connections with SCI students, faculty, and staff, assess their readiness for their first semester of study at Pitt, and build skills to better prepare them. The direct engagement will focus on SCI’s newest cohort of entering students, those admitted test optional (without a review of standardized tests). This will involve both proactive one-on-one outreach to these students, hosting meetings with these students upon request, and guiding student mentors who work for SCI and engage with this population. The assessment will involve tracking first-year student engagements and preparedness (number of events attended, one-on-one appointments, placement test results) with a particular focus on the test-optional cohort and correlating these with student outcomes (mid-semester evaluations, DFW grades, retention after the first and second terms, etc.) to enhance strategies for maximizing first-year student success in future years. The advising component will involve shadowing the Director of Academic Advising beginning in November of 2024 and inheriting full responsibility for her roster by the start of the Spring 2025 term, maintaining that roster through the end of the Spring 2025 term.
This position will have three main responsibility areas – 1) Programming and event coordination, 2) direct engagement with first year students, and 3) maintaining a roster of undergraduate advisees in Spring 2025. These responsibilities will involve close collaboration with SCI’s Student Services team leaders and the position will report to the Senior Director of Student and Academic Affairs.
