As a Field Engineer you will be playing a critical role in the construction of Tesla's first lithium refinery plant near Corpus Christi, TX. You will pro-actively aid the Construction Management team in front-line field support and coordination. This role will require collaboration across functional groups to resolve technical design issues, ensure quality installations, track and report cost/schedule metrics, and model safe work practices. This is a role that requires sound technical judgement and creative problem-solving skills to support field operations.
Day to Day
Review and approve contractor quality plans and procedure
Develop Inspection Test Plans with contractors per project specifications
Construction QC/QA - perform/witness required inspections of self-perform and contractor construction work
Management of RFI/FCN/NCR processes
Review and consolidate turnover documentation
Identify and provide a path of resolution to technical field issues as they arise in collaboration with engineering, applicable contractors, and other parties as required
Coordinate third party inspections as required
Support development/review of project scopes of work, cost estimates, schedules, work plans, and resource requirements
Evaluate contractor change orders and provide recommendations to project management
Assist safety personnel with accident investigations
Ensure all field activities are being executed per project specifications, procedures, and current design documents
Requirements
5+ years of relevant industry experience (heavy industrial, oil & gas, complex chemical plants) - 5-15 is the sweet spot
Instrumentation and Controls background
24V to 480V
Instrumentation process
Process tubing, terminations
Medium and high voltage experience
Going through models, ISOs, verifying designs, drawings
Review and procuring equipment - generating POs from bids
Previous experience on $200M+ projects, preferably with experience on both "owner" and "contractor" side
Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation skills are a must
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical specifications
High proficiency in Bluebeam, Autodesk Navisworks
Proven ability to identify field issues and propose efficient solutions
Willingness to spend a high percentage of time in the field and to get hands dirty as needed to complete objectives or find the correct information
Ability to work within a high-performance, cross-functional organization with extremely tight timelines and aggressive goal
