Type: full-time

Job Description:

Have you ever felt blown away by the miracles of modern medicine, while also feeling that the patient experience still leaves much to be desired?

Here at Myomo, Inc., it's our mission not only to leverage the power of cutting-edge robotic technology to improve patient quality of life, but also to demonstrate a commitment to prioritize and serve the patient.

We are 1st in the U.S. to develop and market the MyoPro® product line of lightweight, non-invasive, powered arm braces (orthoses) to restore function in the paralyzed or weakened arms and hands of individuals that have suffered a stroke, spinal cord or nerve injury such as brachial plexus injury, or other neuro-muscular disability such as traumatic brain injury, (TBI) brachial plexus injury, (BPI) or multiple sclerosis (MS). It is the only device that, sensing a patient's own neurological signals through non-invasive sensors on the arm, can restore their ability to use their arms and hands so that they can return to work, live independently and reduce their cost of care.

At Myomo, we are driven by a mission to enable independence and confidence for stroke survivors as well as those living with the impact of another neurological disorder. Our teams continue to break through barriers, defining the limits of what is possible in both medical device robotics and our global system of care.

We're currently seeking a strong Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer who will maintain responsibility for the design and development of powered orthotics for the MyoPro Product Line. Our ideal candidate will bring a fundamental understanding of mechatronics, along with experience bringing products from early concept development through to commercialization.

He/she will understand and advocate for a usability/ user-centric design mindset, able to take in and evaluate field testing and clinical feedback. He/she does not need to have prior management experience, but possesses leadership traits, and is willing to mentor more junior engineers/ interns where there are opportunities.

Keys to success will be the ability to work effectively both collaboratively and as an individual contributor, along with strong communication skills, diligence, and attention to detail balanced with productivity-orientation.

  • Interact with suppliers to obtain quotes and assess component manufacturability from a wide variety of sources, including CNC machining, sheet metal, textiles, orthotics, printed circuit boards, cable harnesses, and injection molding.
  • Collaborate with peers to develop testing protocols and fixtures to verify performance and improve line-side manufacturing.
  • Effectively utilize CAD designs to bring early-stage concepts through to cost-effective manufacturing and sourcing.
  • Construct prototypes and critically evaluate performance using numerical and qualitative techniques.
  • Drafting, tolerancing, and DFM for low-mid volume manufacture.
  • Take ownership over cross-disciplinary subsystems to efficiently achieve design targets.
  • Mentor more junior engineers as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • 5+ years' experience work experience or master's degree and 3+ years' industry experience.
  • Experience with electromechanical product development and manufacturing.
  • In-depth knowledge of rapid-prototyping and volume manufacturing processes including 3D printing, CNC machining, and injection molding.
  • Experience integrating actuation, sensing, control logic, and electronics in compact packages.
  • Experience with wearables, medical devices, robotics/controls, and design control a plus.
  • Excellent written/verbal, interpersonal, and organizational skills with attention to detail.
