The Job:

As an Embedded Systems Architect, you'll be part of our Tools & Outdoor Products organization working as a Hybrid employee based in Towson, MD. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in designing and developing cordless (battery powered) product embedded systems, with a deep understanding of hardware and software integration. You will be responsible for leading the architecture and design of embedded systems, ensuring they meet the required specifications and performance standards. This role requires a high level of technical expertise, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams in multiple global design centers. You will be involved in all stages of the development lifecycle, from initial concept through to production and deployment.

You'll get to:
  • Architect, design and develop software for real-time, embedded electronics devices used in motor controls, battery management systems and chargers using primarily C/C++.
  • Integration of systems and software, which includes system level debugging (software, electrical, and mechanical) problems with software diagnostics.
  • Work with key stakeholders, develop product specifications and design criteria, ensure all customer requirements are satisfied
  • Develop and implement embedded software and firmware.
  • Ensure hardware and software integration meets performance standards.
  • Conduct system-level testing and validation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
  • Optimize system performance and resource utilization.
  • Document design specifications and development processes.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Participate in code reviews and design reviews.
  • Develop and maintain project timelines and deliverables.
  • Coordinate with external vendors and suppliers.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

The Person:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in embedded systems design and development.
  • Strong knowledge of embedded software development in C/C++.
  • Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS).
  • Understand the operation of electronic circuit components for use in a real-time, embedded product environment - Experience in brushless motor controls a plus.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols (e.g., I2C, SPI, UART).
  • Experience with microcontrollers and microprocessors.
  • Experience with Atlassian products Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket..
  • Knowledge of safety-critical systems and standards.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
