Duties/Responsibilities:
Engineering Technician - IV:
Performs non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity, using operational precedents that are not fully applicable, such assignments that are typically parts of broader assignments, are screened to eliminate unusual design problems.
Developing or reviewing designs by extracting and analyzing a variety of engineering data and applying conventional engineering practices to develop, prepare, or recommend schematics, designs, specifications, electrical drawings and parts lists.
Conducting tests or experiments requiring selection and adaptation or modification of a wide variety of critical test equipment and test procedures; preparing and operating equipment; recording data; and measuring and recording problems of significant complexity that sometimes require resolution at a higher level and analyzes data and prepares test reports.
Applying methods outlined by others to limited segments of research and development projects, constructing experimental or prototype models to meet engineering requirements; conducting tests or experiments; developing/implementing redesigns as necessary; and recording and evaluating data and reports findings.
Engineering Technician - VI:
Prepares designs and specifications for various complex equipment or systems (e.g., a heating system in an office building or new electronic components such as solid-state devices for instrumentation equipment).
Plans the approach to solve design problems; conceives and recommends new design techniques; resolves design problems with contract personnel; and assures compatibility of design with other parts of the system.
Designs and coordinates test set-ups and experiments to prove or disprove the feasibility of preliminary design.
Plans the approach and conducts various experiments to develop equipment or systems
Education/Experience:
Engineering Technician - IV:
Position requires a Technical or Scientific AS or AA degree. ALLOWABLE SUBSTITUTION: A High School diploma or GED credential and three (3) years of recent and relevant experience related to the labor category description may be substituted for an AS or AA degree.
These three (3) years of experience are in addition to the required minimum of six (6) years to meet the "Experience" requirements below, requiring a total of nine (9) years of experience.
Engineering Technician - VI:
Education:
Position requires a Technical or Scientific AS or AA degree. ALLOWABLE SUBSTITUTION: A High School diploma or GED credential and three (3) years of recent and relevant experience related to the labor category description may be substituted for an AS or AA degree.
These three (3) years of experience are in addition to the required minimum of ten (10) years to meet the "Experience" requirements below, requiring a total of thirteen (13) years of experience.
Experience:
At least six (6) years of recent and relevant experience in a position related to the labor category description.
Four (4) years of experience in installation of hardware and/or equipment.
One (1) year of experience in design, preparation, and modification of engineering documents and drawings. Experience may be concurrent.
Engineering Technician - VI:
At least ten (10) years of recent and relevant experience in a position related to the labor category description.
Eight (8) years of experience in installation of hardware and/or equipment.
Four (4) years of experience in design, preparation, and modification of engineering documents and drawings. Experience may be concurrent.
