Job Description:

Facebook Reality Labs is looking for a Hardware Engineering Manager. You will lead multidisciplinary programs to develop innovative see-through display technologies and the next generation of wearables.Your role is to lead a team of engineers responsible for the display system development for AR- and Smartglasses. The team manages the display system development, creates system level simulation models and performs system simulations as well as tolerancing to design the display system. In addition, the team provides support to system integration, simulations and metrology as well as product requirements. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of a wide range of hardware modules.As a leader in your engineering field, you will also provide technical guidance to the engineers and coach team members.



Hardware Engineering Manager Responsibilities:



  • Leads a hardware engineering team that consists of mechanical, optical and systems engineers.

  • Coach team members to improve the technical and leadership skills of the engineers.

  • Drive the technology development to meet our product requirements.

  • Lead team through new technology introduction stages and milestones.

  • With an execution mindset, enable the team to deliver their goals on time by identifying risks and potential roadblocks and enable mitigation paths and contingency plans, removing any obstacles that may hinder progress.

  • Build cross-functional relationships with other teams to support the technology and product vision.

  • Expect to travel domestically and internationally.





Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of experience as a hardware leader developing optical systems with multi-function/multi-disciplinary threads.

  • 5+ years experience and knowledge on three or more of the following: systems design and integration, imaging, illumination, radiometry and photometry, physical and geometric optics, statistics, mechanical design or optomechanics.

  • Experience on defining system requirements and flowing down to individual modules and interfaces as well as leading and driving module development from design to assembly assembly.

  • Leadership experience in leading individuals and facilitating teams to find solutions to problems.

  • Collaboration experience and influencing skills across organizational boundaries.





Preferred Qualifications:



  • 3+ years of experience in managing HW engineering teams to accomplish multidisciplinary technical work and building high performing teams.

  • Direct experience on shipping wearable displays over the full life cycle and understanding on wearable/HMD display system design and integration.

  • Experience with design/manufacturing of small form-factor sensing or imaging systems.

  • Experience on display calibration functions and graphics pipeline.

$170,000/year to $240,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits


Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
