Job Title: WIC Nutrition Assistant I

Location: WIC Coastal, Oceanside and Encinitas - Mission Mesa Health Center

Training starts in San Marcos

Shift: M-F 7:30 am to 4:30 pm Once a month Saturdays - 8 am-12 Noon

Position Summary:

The Nutrition Assistant I is responsible for screening women, infants and children to determine eligibility for the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Supplemental Nutrition Program. The Nutrition Assistant I also serves as receptionist for the clinic, prints and issues food instruments and implements Truecare and WIC policies and procedures.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 
  
• Bilingual in English and Spanish.
• 
  
• 1 year working with patients in a clinical office setting is required
• 
  
• Ability to work with mothers to be and newborns, providing referrals, assisting through WIC processes and supporting breastfeeding and nutrition.

• Reliable transportation, proof of insurance and a clean driving record.

• Computer proficiency, particularly data entry and inventory records of vouchers and referrals

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED

Associate degree in nutrition, food science, dietetics, or related field. Knowledge of the WIC Program and maternal child health. Knowledge of nutrients/foods as well as familiarity of life cycle nutritional needs (pregnancy, breastfeeding, infancy, and children). Bilingual in English and Spanish.
