Job Description:

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) provides clinical leadership and expertise for population-based nursing care to integrate evidence based care, advance clinical practice, achieve optimal nurse-sensitive patient outcomes and facilitate transitions of care. The CNS provides leadership and mentoring to support the interprofessional team in the evaluation and implementation of evidence-based therapies and research. The CNS will function independently as needed in all aspects of work area clinical operations on a 24-hour basis. The CNS will collaborate with other work area leaders in the supervision of unit staff and implementation of projects to achieve the goals and objectives of the work area.

• Provides clinical practice leadership through the design, implementation and evaluation of care delivery for patient population. Collaborates with the healthcare team to lead and manage projects impacting clinical care.
• Acts as a change leader to respond to regulatory, organizational and community needs in a dynamic health care environment.
• Advances nursing practice for defined patient population by developing policies, procedures, guidelines, and education that incorporate evidence-based strategies related to nursing care delivery/response, documentation and communication, and transitions of care.
• Partners with interdisciplinary team to translate, conduct and disseminate research to address gaps and improve clinical knowledge and nursing practice.
• Develops annual performance objectives for work area employees.
• Engages in continuous performance management, writes performance evaluations for staff, and conducts evaluation conferences on a timely basis.
• Holds employees accountable and implements the disciplinary process when appropriate in collaboration with the CS Manager.
  
  
  

Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience
5+ years of recent pediatric experience in area of specialty required.
Previous supervisory and CNS experience preferred.

Education/Licensure/Certification
Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited school required.
Current professional California Licensure
BLS,PALS and Clinical Nurse Specialist certification required.
NRP required for NICCU
National Certification Required
