Job Description:

TheDepartment of Visual Artsat the University of Chicago invites applications from practicing artists well-versed in contemporary issues across all artistic disciplinesto join the faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor.

The successful candidate will be appointed as an Assistant Professor on the tenure track, will pursue their own creative agenda, and will participate with other DOVA faculty in curriculum development, academic advising of students in a variety of media, and other committee work. The expected start date of the position is July 1, 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The selected candidate will join a department whose faculty are engaged in active careers of national and international scope. The department emphasizes engagement with work that extends beyond ones own and participation in discussion with faculty within and beyond the visual arts to build collaborative conversations within the intellectual culture of the University.

All faculty in the department work with a range of undergraduate and graduate students, from the completely inexperienced in our core courses, to advising advanced students working across media.

Qualifications

An MFA in a relevant visual arts area or other relevant degree is required by the start of the appointment. The successful candidate must also have a national and/or international exhibition and publication history, or the potential to develop such a record, as well as the ability or potential to be an excellent teacher and mentor at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
