WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Vice President of Corporate Communications at the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive communications strategy that aligns internal and external stakeholders with the organization’s mission to promote kidney health and improve the lives of patients and their families. This strategic role involves establishing a robust communications infrastructure that enhances information flow, ensures consistent messaging, and fosters a culture of engagement and collaboration across the organization. The VP will lead strategic initiatives to enhance organizational literacy, strengthen internal communications, and develop a high-impact executive communications program, all aimed at advancing. NKF’s goals and visibility.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Champion the NKF brand by ensuring all communications consistently reflect and elevate the organization’s values, voice, and mission, while driving brand alignment across all platforms to strengthen stakeholder perception and trust in NKF
  • Align stakeholders with NKF’s mission by developing and implementing strategies to align staff and key stakeholders with NKF’s messaging on wins, advancements, and progress in delivering the mission.
  • Provide strategic oversight to improve organizational literacy by developing formalized and consistent communication pathways that align staff with key NKF messaging and enhance awareness of

initiatives across the organization. This includes leading the development of vital statistics reports, simplified messaging documents, and daily news updates for executive leadership.

  • Foster a culture of engagement and collaboration among stakeholders through targeted communication initiatives across the enterprise, ensuring that all internal stakeholders ( NKF staff CEO and Senior Executives, National Board and Local Board Members, HR Managers and Staff, RVP’s and ED’s, National Staff, Local Office Staff, Affiliate Staff, MAB’s and volunteers) and external stakeholders (i.e. industry, providers, members, Dept of Health, employers (benefits), professional societies, federal and state agencies) are informed and engaged in the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Support the VP of Marketing & Communication with the existing executive communications program to position NKF’s leadership as accessible and connected with staff, utilizing existing resources and identifying needs/gaps, to re-enforce that NKF leadership values and appreciates all staff partners in our mission. This includes, for example, drafting and distributing monthly executive updates, producing CEO update videos, and overseeing the planning and execution of NKF Town Halls.
  • The VP of Corporate Communications will collaborate with the VP of Marketing & Communications in managing crisis communication efforts to protect and enhance NKF’s reputation, ensuring timely and transparent communication during critical incidents.
  • Collaborate with department heads to gather and refine content for internal communications. Ensure that messaging is consistent, relevant, and aligned with NKF’s strategic goals.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to manage and mitigate potential risks to the organization’s public image.
  • Optimize the use of NKF’s intranet, Kidney Connect, to serve as a central hub for internal communications. Work with the web team to enhance the site’s functionality and ensure key information is easily accessible to staff.
  • Implement tools and processes to measure the effectiveness of internal communications, including staff surveys and engagement metrics. Use this data to refine strategies and improve overall communication efforts.
  • Develop and distribute communication templates, toolkits, and PowerPoint presentations to ensure consistency in messaging across the organization. Provide support to managers and team leaders in utilizing these resources effectively.
  • Function as a liaison between national leadership and internal stakeholders, ensuring that messaging is tailored to the unique needs of different departments and teams within NKF.

WHAT YOU’LL POSSESS

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Internal Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in corporate communications, internal communications, or a related field, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven record of developing and executing successful communication strategies.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in crisis communication and executive communications.
  • Proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • High level of emotional intelligence, professionalism, and integrity.
  • Experience in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization, ideally within the healthcare or public health sector.
  • Knowledge of healthcare issues/industry.
