Job Description The Chronicle Heritage is seeking a motivated and experienced Controller who will be responsible for full-cycle accounting duties and will develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures. As the Controller, you'll manage the accounting transactions and monitor compliance with defined policies and procedures. To be successful in this role, you should have in-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role requires a hands-on approach and experience building and leading an accounting department. Hire Type: Full-time (salaried) Schedule: 40 hours, Monday–Friday (flexible schedule) Location: Remote: tethered to site, Onsite – Phoenix, AZ (Headquarters) and work from home office in Arizona Responsibilities
  • Ensure all payments are completed on time and are accurate (including accounts payable and bank deposits)
  • Lead/oversee monthly results calls with department management
  • Analyze costs and profits
  • Support the tracking of financial and operational KPIs
  • Regular monitoring and tracking of projects and WIP
  • Report on financial status on a regular basis and create ad-hoc reports when needed
  • Establish and maintain a monthly closing schedule that meets the targets of the PE sponsor
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date filing systems
  • Perform internal audits and assist with external audits
  • Ensure compliance with accounting and tax regulations as well as reporting for government clients
  • Oversee support for RFP process from a financial perspective
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Accounting or finance degree
  • 3+ years of experience as a Controller or similar role
  • 3+ years of experience with general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions
  • Knowledge of and working experience using Sage Intacct
  • Proficient to expert knowledge of accounting principles, procedures and legislation
  • Knowledge of ASC606 implications
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project).
Preferred Skills
  • BSc or MSc in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA or CMA preferred
  • Experience using Sage Intacct
  • Experience in a project and/or professional services environment
  • ERP implementation/conversion experience
  • M&A integration experience
  • Progressive knowledge of accounting principles, procedures, and legislation
  • Experience with cash management and risk assessment
  • Working knowledge of construction lien rights
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work with tight deadlines
  • Willingness to learn and take on more
  • Ability to operate in a distributed organizational setting
Physical And Mental Requirements And Work Environment
  • Vision is required to observe environmental phenomena and record and translate observations into text (either keyboard entry on a computer or dictation and audio translation of recording to Standard English scientific text).
  • Mental requirements include ability to organize one's own work or that of crew members; ability to recognize and observe scientific data and analyze data as well as ability to perform calculations. Must also be able to observe social and professional interactions and respond appropriately.
  • Some work is performed primarily in an indoor environment and requires sustained sitting and use of fingers, hands, and arms to operate a computer and perform keyboard entry of data or document preparation (or equivalent with accommodation). Must also be able to operation standard office equipment (phone, copy machine, FAX machine, etc.)
