Position Overview:

Selby Jennings is actively partnered with a leading supermajor The Middle Office Manager will lead and oversee risk control operations, focusing on ensuring the integrity of trading activities related to North American Gas and LNG markets. This role is pivotal in supporting the business's growth by providing detailed risk insights, managing risk control analysts, and collaborating with various internal departments. The Middle Office Supervisor will play a critical role in developing and enhancing risk policies, procedures, and initiatives, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and supporting the daily operations of the trading team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Front Office to assess the risk impact of transactions and facilitate business growth by providing accurate risk assessments.
  • Lead and manage risk analysis efforts to support well-informed commercial decision-making.
  • Supervise a team of risk control analysts, including performance management, coaching, and resource allocation.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of market structures and commercial strategies, providing valuable insights and recommendations.
  • Partner with Back Office, Finance, Credit, Legal, and Internal Control teams to ensure risk control practices align with compliance policies.
  • Oversee internal limits for Front Office activities, ensuring adherence to established limits and accurate documentation.
  • Analyze and advise on non-standard transactions, providing insights and guidance to senior management.
  • Implement risk policies and procedures to support the continued growth of the business, identifying and addressing process gaps or risks.
  • Serve as a liaison for trading inquiries, supporting traders in managing complex trades and ensuring accurate risk modeling.
  • Ensure accurate daily reporting and independent analysis of risk positions and trading results, ensuring compliance with trading limits.
  • Manage staffing resources and department activities, conducting performance appraisals for direct reports and developing team capabilities.
  • Oversee compliance with regulatory requirements, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of trading results to senior management.
  • Work closely with global risk control teams to ensure consistency and alignment across regions.

Key Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field (required); Master's degree or certifications in a related discipline (preferred).
  • At least five years of experience in a mid-office or commodity trading environment, with prior supervisory experience (preferred).
  • Expertise in North American Gas and LNG markets, with knowledge of natural gas pipeline fundamentals, storage, financial and physical trading, and shipping.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess risk and provide actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Proficiency in risk management and control practices, with a focus on compliance and regulatory alignment.
  • Experience managing a team and conducting performance evaluations, with a focus on coaching and development.

The salary banding for this role is $150,000 to $170,000 depending on the candidate's level of experience.
