Description: Job Summary

The Assistant Director will play a critical role in expanding the impact and capacity of mobile health clinics across the U.S. by developing and executing programs that enhance mobile clinics' ability to serve diverse communities. In close collaboration with the Executive Director and other staff, this person will lead Mobile Health Map including day-to-day operations and overall strategic development. This is a new role on a growing team that requires a relationship builder who can toggle easily between the big picture aims (i.e. strengthening the field of mobile healthcare, ensuring mobile clinics receive the support they need, etc.) and the practical hands-on work of delivering high quality tools and services (troubleshooting technology problems, managing staff and contractors, analyzing data, writing grant proposal and reports, presenting at conferences and webinars, etc.)

Position Description

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Lead and Manage Mobile Health Map's Programs and Services:

  • Oversee daily operations of Mobile Health Map, including developing and delivering online resources and capacity-building services for mobile clinics.
  • Manage large-scale projects including learning collaboratives, technology upgrades, research projects, and collaborative efforts with external organizations.
  • Ensure the quality, usability, and security of data collected from mobile clinics. Work with staff and contractors to improve data collection and our online tools.
  • Analyze data to identify and communicate trends in mobile healthcare.
  • Contributes to the overall strategic direction in a growing, national organization. Improves programs, department processes, policies and procedures ensuring an equity lens is applied in decision making


Build and Nurture Strategic Relationships:
  • Actively cultivate and manage relationships with key stakeholders, including mobile clinics national public health organizations, researchers, funders, and policymakers.
  • Lead outreach to potential partners and strengthen existing relationships by finding common ground, advancing shared goals, and creating meaningful collaborations.
  • Engage with diverse mobile health audiences ensuring exceptional user experiences.
  • Represent Mobile Health Map at high-profile meetings and conferences, presenting key findings and organizational accomplishments.
  • Co-author articles, reports, toolkits, manuscripts, blog posts, curriculum, slide decks, conference abstracts, and other materials.


Manage and Collaborate with People:
  • Supervise, mentor, and support the professional development of employees, students, and volunteers.
  • Manage relationships with vendors and contractors such as web developers and data scientists. Develop and manage against detailed scopes of work, timelines, and other clearly documented expectations.
  • Hold oneself and others accountable to completing projects on time and on budget.
  • Collaborate with Communications Specialist to accomplish shared goals of engagement, user experience, and brand value.


Develop and Execute Program Strategy:

  • Work with the Executive Director to set the strategic vision and priorities for Mobile Health Map.
  • Lead the development and execution of innovative strategies aimed at enhancing the performance and impact of mobile health clinics.
  • Co-author articles, reports, toolkits, manuscripts, blog posts, curriculum, slide decks, conference abstracts, and other materials.
  • Develop and nurture a deep understanding of the mobile healthcare landscape, (including The Family Van's long history) from a variety of perspectives, including mobile clinic staff, administrators, funders, and policymakers. Apply this knowledge and analyze opportunities to better fulfill our mission locally and nationally.


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years' relevant experience


Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Master's degree in public health or related field and at least ten years of professional experience working with public health or healthcare organizations preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of health equity.
  • Expertise in health program planning, evaluation, and quantitative data analysis.
  • Proven track record in relationship management, including building and nurturing partnerships to achieve shared objectives.
  • Exceptional manager of people, adept at building rapport, providing clear and consistent feedback, and effectively managing conflict and performance issues.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills, capable of adjusting messaging for diverse platforms and stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to quickly learn and effectively use new software (e.g., WordPress, Zoom, Salesforce, Constant Contact, Slack).
  • Experience with one or more statistical software packages such a R or SPSS.

This is a term appointment, with an end date of December 31, 2025, with the possibility of renewal contingent on funding.
