Job Description:

Position will both monitor and inspect the Jimmie Austin Golf Course to provide members and guests with excellent playing conditions on a daily basis. This is a hands-on leadership position with responsibilities of leading, directing, overseeing and training the turf care staff. In collaboration with the Course Superintendent, will be responsible for directing all aspects of turf health, playability, and aesthetics of the entire golf course property to meet Jimmie Austin standards.   


Duties will include but are not limited to:




  • Responsible for hiring, training, and supervision of staff that maintain the Jimmie Austin Golf Course. Assists in personnel management, evaluation, and positive discipline.

  • Supervises the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment.

  • Has purchasing responsibilities and direct interaction with golf coaches for all the daily project schedules.

  • Supervises and/or performs pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment.

  • Schedules work and supervises employees use of equipment

  • Schedules work and supervises the maintenance of greens, tees and fairways.

  • Operate all irrigation systems

  • Build agronomic schedules and plans for the turf care department

  • Performs various other duties as needed to successfully fulfill the functions of the position. 

Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree, AND:  



  • 12 months of golf course experience.


Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months of related experience in lieu of the Bachelor's Degree for a total of 60 months related experience.



 


Skills:




  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing


  • Basic bath and computer skills

  • Must be able to supervise staff and communicate directions and expectations effectively

  • Ability to communicate and build rapport with students, faculty and staff


Certifications:




  •  Valid Oklahoma Driver's license in order to operate University vehicles, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire. 



Advertised Physical Requirements:



  • Must be able to move, bend, crawl, and engage in repetitive motions.

  • Frequent exposure to pressure caused by deadlines and busy periods. 

  • Outdoor weather exposure. 


Department Preferences:



  • Associate or Bachelors degree specifically in Turf Management or closely related

  • Current ODAFF Category 3 a Pesticide Applicator Certification, or ability to obtain within 90-days of hire.

  • Bilingual - English and Spanish

  • 24 more months of golf course maintenance/facilities experience and degree

  • Previous professional experience supervising and leading a team


Supervision: Will report to the Golf Course Superintendent and will supervise peak, student, and full-time team members.
