Your Role:
Tetra Tech, a leading environmental and management consulting firm, is seeking Senior Environmental Research Engineer/Scientist to join our team in Cincinnati, Ohio. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing, managing, and providing technical support under contracts with the U.S. EPA related to research and development of sustainable environmental investigation and cleanup technologies, homeland security detection and decontamination technologies, and related issues. An emphasis on technical publications and presentations is preferred along an excellent working knowledge of CERCLA, RCRA, and TSCA and a broad understanding of current ORD market trends.
Responsibilities may include managing a team of scientists and engineers and providing technical direction in carrying out research and development, including technology testing and evaluation projects, technology demonstrations, and related support activities, such as constructing, testing, and setting up data acquisition systems and instrumentation. Projects may include both laboratory-and field-based testing scenarios and require significant coordination with the U.S. EPA, university subject matter experts, research institutes/labs, technology vendors, and other possible stakeholders. The
successful candidate also may be responsible for performing overall contractual and technical management, including managing customer relationships, managing staff and other resources, schedules and budgets, financial reporting, and ensuring the technical quality of all technical support and deliverables. The successful candidate will be responsible for leveraging their management and technical experience to identify and pursue new project opportunities. Ideal candidates will have some experience in business development, including identifying and developing project or service offerings, pitching new ideas and project concepts to clients, and turning ideas into full-scale projects.
Qualifications:
A PhD in engineering or sciences is required. Must have a minimum of 7 years of experience leading, managing, or carrying out research and development projects for EPA or other government research agencies that address environmental and/or human health issues. Direct experience managing or supporting U.S. EPA ORD research projects is highly desirable. Must have experience working with federal clients and managing federal contracts and/or projects under such contracts. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience designing and developing research projects involving technology testing and evaluation and familiarity working in a research laboratory setting.
Must be highly motivated, customer focused, and work well in a team environment. Must have initiative and the ability to manage projects with minimal supervision and oversight. Excellent communication, organizational, and management skills required. Computer modeling and database management skills are desirable.
Education and Certifications:
PhD degree required. Registration or certification as an engineer or scientist is highly desirable. OSHA HAZWOPER certification is preferred.
Physical Demands:
The position requires limited to moderate physical activity. Position may require modest lifting (up to 50 pounds) when providing on-site support in a laboratory or during field-based projects.
Work Environment:
Position will be located at a Tetra Tech office in Cincinnati, Ohio. Routine local travel to EPA offices and laboratories is anticipated, with occasional long-distance travel anticipated for meetings and/or site visits located throughout the U.S. Outdoor activity in all weather conditions also is possible.
