Research Associate 1
The University of Miami/UHealth Department of The Miami Project has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Research Associate 1 to work at the UHealth Medical Campus.
Core Job Summary
The Research Associate 1, SOM supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.
Core Responsibilities
Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.
Participates in the publication of significant results.
Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.
Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.
Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research.
Department Specific Functions
Contribute to a research program aimed at identifying novel therapeutics for promoting axon regeneration and neuroprotection after injury to the central nervous system.
Work as an integral member of a research team employing gene therapy and cell-based strategies to induce neurorepair and functional recovery towards the development and translation of treatments to the clinical setting for spinal cord, nerve, and brain injury.
Use prior knowledge of Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Cell Biology or Molecular Biology to perform techniques and protocols as well as design and troubleshoot experiments.
Perform procedures and analysis associated with histological and behavioral assessment of animals following spinal cord injury including, animal surgeries (laminectomy, tracing, cell transplantation), animal post-operative care, animal perfusion and tissue dissection, tissue sectioning and staining, behavioral measurement of sensory and motor function as well as fluorescent and confocal microscopy and tissue culture.
Perform biochemistry, immunochemistry and molecular biology techniques including cell and tissue staining, western blotting, gel electrophoresis and ELISA.
Be able to manage transgenic mouse colonies, perform genotyping and coordinate breeding programs for the mice.
The position will require after-hours and weekend work with animal care and management.

Core Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in relevant field required
No prior experience required
