The Maître Fromager is an expert in cheese, responsible for curating, managing, and presenting a diverse selection of cheeses. This role involves sourcing high-quality cheeses, managing inventory, educating customers, and creating exceptional cheese experiences.
Key Responsibilities
Cheese Selection and Sourcing
- Curate and manage a diverse range of high-quality cheeses from local and international producers.
- Develop and maintain relationships with cheese producers, suppliers, and distributors.
- Stay informed about industry trends, new cheese varieties, and seasonal changes to keep offerings current and exciting.
Cheese Management
- Oversee the storage, aging, and rotation of cheeses to maintain optimal quality.
- Ensure proper handling and hygiene standards for cheese storage and display.
- Monitor inventory levels and manage reordering processes to ensure a consistent supply of cheeses.
Customer Service and Education:
- Provide expert advice to customers on cheese selection, pairings, and storage.
- Conduct cheese tastings and educational sessions to enhance customer knowledge and appreciation.
- Develop and deliver engaging presentations on cheese varieties, origins, and characteristics.
Menu and Platter Design
- Design and create visually appealing cheese platters and boards for events, menus, or retail displays.
- Collaborate with culinary staff to incorporate cheese into dishes and menus, ensuring flavor harmony and presentation excellence.
Training and Leadership
- Train and mentor staff on cheese handling, presentation techniques, and customer service.

Education and Experience
- Proven experience as a Maître Fromager or in a similar cheese-focused role.
- Extensive knowledge of cheese varieties, aging processes, and pairing principles.
