The Avionics Engineer defines and designs military avionic systems and systems-of-systems. Specifically, the Avionics Engineer designs complex, software-intensive manned and unmanned systems to perform functions such as electronic warfare, sensor integration, ISR, embedded training, tactical data links and defensive countermeasures.
Required Minimum Qualifications
9 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, any technical degree OR 7 years of related experience with a Masters' degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, any technical degree.
Experience developing complex, software-intensive, military or avionics systems using system engineering processes and methodologies.
Experience designing/developing software-based systems that integrate multiple subsystems, and/or integrate multiple software applications and hardware.
Experience with Modular Open System Approach (MOSA).
Experience integrating and troubleshooting systems to determine functional correctness, completeness, and/or effectiveness.
Experience leading project development teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Active Secret Clearance (must be eligible to obtain a clearance)
Experience developing system design for Electronic Warfare systems.
Experience processing and analyzing data with tools such as Python or R.
Experience with avionic data buses (e.g., MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, Ethernet, RS-422, etc.), tactical data links (e.g., Link-16), military radios, and open systems architecture frameworks (e.g., FACETM).
Experience using Model-Based System Engineering (SysML) to design systems (e.g., use cases, behavior, interfaces, data models); Additional DoDAF experience is a plus.
Experience working in a full-lifecycle agile and/or digital engineering environment.
Experience supporting field tests to troubleshoot and solve problems.
Experience designing secure and safe system solutions.
Experience developing/designing complex, software-intensive, military unmanned air systems (UAS) using system engineering processes and methodologies.
Knowledge of the operational use models of military UAS.
Key Responsibilities
Manage all technical aspects of product or system design including directing multiple lab resources for large scale product or system deployments.
Manage sub-contractor resources supporting all system engineering areas (e.g., definition, requirements analysis, synthesis, systems analysis, and implementation).
Conduct product or system design synthesis, translating requirements into physical architectures for systems of high complexity.
Define/refine internal and external system interfaces.
Support development of product strategy and execution.
Develop and review technical reports, specifications, test plans, memos, and diagrams detailing product or system attributes.
Lead medium-to-large project tasks and/or small programs and provide technical status and plans to Project Director.
Serve as a resource and Subject Matter Expert (SME) for avionics engineering tools and technologies.
Significantly contribute to whitepapers and proposals.
