Senior Process Engineer

Principle Tasks
  • Design and implement manufacturing systems, processes and equipment for manufacturing catalysts and catalyst supports.
  • Conduct laboratory experiments using sound scientific techniques and following established technical procedures.
  • Direct the work of others.
  • Recommend process enhancements; specify new unit operations to make manufacturing process more scalable and sustainable.
  • Monitor and analyze data from processes and experiments; use data to make recommendations on next steps.
  • Ability to assess structure-property-processing relationships for manufactured materials.
  • Develop and implement processes to separate components of liquids or gases using controlled chemical processes.
  • Troubleshoot problems with chemical synthesis and characterization processes.
  • Design and plan layout of equipment including purchasing/replacing.
  • Evaluate chemical equipment and processes to identify ways to optimize performance and to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Prepare estimates of production costs and generate production progress reports for management.
  • Participate in cost reduction and quality improvement projects.
  • Conduct research to develop new and improved chemical synthesis and conversion processes to improve processes for manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across functional disciplines and within the R&D team.
  • Design tests and monitor performance of processes throughout stages of production to determine degree of control over variables, such as temperature, density, specific gravity, and pressure.
  • Establish and enforce safety procedures.
  • Develop familiarity with existing literature in relevant fields to accelerate research and development efforts.
  • Help transition new products to manufacturing.
  • Perform laboratory studies of steps in research and development of new products and test proposed processes in small-scale operation, such as a pilot plant.

Edu/ Training/ Exp Required
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, material science or related field from an accredited college/university
  • 10+ years of post-graduate experience
  • Advanced understanding of Chemical Safety and Regulatory requirements
  • Experience with designing and implementing systems, processes and equipment procedures for manufacturing
  • Must have knowledge and mastery of chemical manufacturing unit operations and processes.
  • Hands-on skills working with chemical manufacturing unit operations, including high temperature furnaces, mixers, mills, and filtration; writing process documentation; analyzing DOE's
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of stakeholders and end users
  • Strong organizational skills, analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced use of laboratory notebooking, Microsoft Suite to plan, analyze, and report on projects, experimental data, and logs.
  • Must be a Citizen of the US

Additional Information/Requirements

Must be willing to relocate to and work onsite in Albuquerque, NM.
