Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY:

Performs skilled design, maintenance, and repair work in a particular craft such as carpentry, electrical work, HVAC, landscaping, mechanical work, plumbing, or painting. Work is performed under general supervision with supervisor inspecting results and quality periodically.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: (All incumbents will not perform all duties.)

Essential Functions:

Inspects equipment for safety hazards before use; performs preventive maintenance on equipment as needed.

Works in a manner safe to the individual and other people; keeps work area clean and safe; follows safety rules and safe work practices; uses safety equipment as required.

Carpentry:

Builds, repairs, and installs counters, cabinets, bookshelves, benches, partitions, floors, doors, building framework, trim, etc. using various carpenter's hand and power tools, blueprints, drawings, and/or oral instructions.

Selects specified type and quantity of lumber and other materials required to build/repair specific job by applying mathematical calculations and considering purpose and end product of job.

Operates circular saw, sander, bandsaw, jointer, shaper, planer, and other hand tools.

Electrical:

Inspects electrical installations on a commercial/industrial scale to determine malfunctions, hazards, and need for adjustments.

Replaces and/or repairs electrical equipment.

Installs new electrical equipment.

Observes safety standards, specifications and electrical codes.

Uses hand tools, power tools, and other equipment associated with electrical work on a commercial/industrial level including electrical test and location equipment.

Inspects equipment for safety hazards before use or before repair or maintenance is performed.

Electrician must perform preventative maintenance on equipment as needed to insure reliability and function of equipment.

Painting:

Removes paint from and smooths old surfaces to prepare for painting; covers furniture and other items for protection while painting and cleaning surfaces.

Applies coats of paint, varnish, stains, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect surfaces, trimmings, fixtures, and other structures.

Uses paint remover, scraper, wire brush, sander, brushes, steel wool, spray gun, and paint rollers; cleans tools after each job to extend life of tools.

Plumbing:

Inspects function of all plumbing on a commercial/industrial scale to determine malfunctions, hazards, and need for adjustments, replacements, and/or repairs.

Measures, cuts, threads, solders pipe.

Observes safety standards, specifications, and plumbing codes.

Uses hand tools, power tools, and other equipment associated with commercial/industrial plumbing and maintenance.

Inspects equipment for safety hazards before use.

Heating and Air Conditioning:

Inspects HVAC installations on a commercial/industrial scale to determine malfunctions, hazards, and need for adjustments.

Replaces and or repairs HVAC equipment.

Installs new HVAC equipment.

Observes safety standards, specifications and mechanical codes.

Inspects equipment for safety hazards before use or before repair or maintenance is performed.

Candidate must perform preventative maintenance on equipment as needed to insure reliability and function of equipment.

Uses hand tools and other equipment associated with HVAC work on a commercial/industrial level including test, charging, and recovery equipment for installation.

Boiler, chiller, and their associated control experience including variable speed drives highly desirable.

Examples of Other Major Responsibilities:

Performs other related maintenance duties as required based on division workload.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent. One-two years of technical or vocational school training in area of specialization preferred.

Two to three years specialized experience at a journeyman level of experience in area of specialization.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid Oklahoma Driver's License and satisfactory motor vehicle record.

State Oklahoma journeyman or contractor's license for electricians, plumbers, and heating and air (HVAC).

Knowledge:

Tools, equipment, materials used in area of specialization.

Blueprints, specifications, and plans.

The ability to locate, price and procure parts for repair, replacement and maintenance of equipment.

Occupational hazards and safety rules and regulations related to respective job function.

Skills:

Installation maintenance and repair at an industrial/commercial level in area of specialization.

Operation of standard equipment used in specialized area to determine and repair malfunctions.

Reading blueprints, schematics, specifications, and plans associated with construction and installation in area of specialization.

Performing basic mathematical calculations associated with area of specialization.

Interpersonal skills necessary to be courteous of fellow employees and citizens while performing assigned tasks and duties.

Ability to get along and assist fellow employees is of great importance.

Mental and Physical Abilities:

Ability to maintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance.

Analytical ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions and determine necessary repairs.

Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail.

Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy (20-50 lb.) supplies, materials, and equipment frequently.

Ability to lift and carry heavy (50-75 lb.) supplies, materials, and equipment occasionally.

Work requires continued walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.

Working Conditions:

Frequent exposure of up to 80% of work time to dirt, dust, extremes of temperature, noise, and noxious fumes and odors.

Exposure to hazardous situations which involves heavy machinery, hazardous chemicals, or power tools, power lifts, and possibility of electrical shock.

On call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for emergencies.
