Job Description:

Doppler Bio is developing a next-generation programmable precision genetic medicine platform with the potential to transform gene therapy and cell engineering. The company was founded by world leading CRISPR, gene editing, and molecular biology pioneers from MIT, Broad Institute, Harvard and Duke Universities and world-class investors using a novel targeted cell and gene therapy platform. The company's early scientific team will play a leading role to translate the technology, define the early clinical pipeline, develop the scientific strategy for key preclinical experiments, and work at the forefront of gene editing therapeutic development.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a talented, innovative and highly motivated leader with a deep understanding of molecular biology, RNA biology and mRNA platform technologies. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise, a strategic mindset, and clear, forwarding-thinking leadership in RNA technologies for the treatment of human diseases. A proven track record in leveraging modern synthetic biology, bioinformatics and RNA metabolism expertise for early-stage drug discovery is essential. As a member of the Platform Research Leadership team, you will lead a high-performing team of scientists to advance our research pipeline, playing a pivotal role in shaping and executing the company's scientific strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide strategic and technical leadership to integrate synthetic, molecular and computational biology in developing an RNA therapeutic platform that delivers genetic medicines to specific cell and tissue types.

Foster a culture of innovation and collaboration to advance Doppler's state-of-the-art technologies and drive drug discovery.

Implement a "Design-Build-Test-Learn" workflow to efficiently screen novel RNA sensors in various in vitro model systems, expediting hit discovery with enhanced efficiency and shorter cycle times.

Develop and deploy novel strategies for collecting robust, reproducible data from highly multiplexed in vitro and in vivo experiments.

Utilize deep knowledge of RNA folding, metabolism, editing and protein translation pathways to enhance the activity and stability of RNA therapeutics.

Identify and build core capabilities to achieve team and company goals.

Collaborate with the leadership team to define and refine the scientific strategy, ensuring alignment with business goals.

Establish partnerships with academic institutions and other third parties to leverage emerging technologies and models.

Contribute to technology development that expands Doppler's portfolio of proprietary capabilities.

Mentor and guide research scientists, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.

Maintain a strong scientific curiosity, staying current with scientific literature and the latest technological advancements.

Qualifications:
  • PhD in molecular and cellular biology, synthetic biology, chemical biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, genetics, or a related field.
  • 8+ years in biotech, or a related industry with a focus on technical excellence, strategic thinking, and innovation.
  • Experience leading teams of PhD and BS/MS-level scientists in deploying synthetic and molecular biology tools to answer fundamental mechanistic questions and advance scientific discovery.
  • Comprehensive understanding and proven leadership in the RNA drug discovery process.
  • Deep scientific knowledge and extensive lab experience in advanced molecular biology, RNA therapeutics, nucleic acid biology, RNA sequence analysis, RNA structure-function relationships, RNA-protein interactions and next-generation sequencing.
  • Experience with massively parallel reporter assays for combinatorial screening of nucleic acids is preferred but not required.
  • Strategic thinking to identify gaps in competencies or capabilities and drive continuous improvement in platform technology.
  • Proven track record of publications in high-impact journals or significant industry contributions.
  • Strong entrepreneurial mentality with a hands-on approach and a can-do attitude, working closely with internal and external teams.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas to diverse audiences.
  • Open, transparent communication with team members and senior leadership.
  • An established network within the academic, biotech and pharma communities is preferred.
