Job Description:

ENGAGEMENT COUNSELOR

Primary Function: Provides counseling services to clients experiencing withdrawal and assists in coordinating transition to next phase in the treatment process.

Supervision: Supervised by the Counseling Manager

Essential Functions:

a. Complete client evaluation based on assessment of needs.

b. Complete initial treatment planning, including recommendations for ongoing care, with clients based on evaluation.

c. Complete brief, individualized motivational intervention with clients, following up as needed based on individual needs.

d. Facilitate motivational groups with clients in detox programming.

e. Providing orientation and support to clients who are transitioning into residential treatment.

g. Assist clients in crisis situations, providing support and needed clinical interventions

h. Prepare and complete all necessary documentation and record keeping.

i. Prepare and facilitate groups on substance and co-occurring disorders.

j. Maintain knowledge and adhere to Harmony policies and procedures.

k. Participate as an effective and contributing member of the counseling team.

l. Demonstrate knowledge and competency related to confidentiality and ethical standards of the counseling profession.

m. Attend continuing education classes and apply knowledge learned to work at Harmony. Share knowledge with co-workers.

n. Adheres to confidentiality laws including 42CFR Part 2, HIPAA and HITECH as

well as all Harmony policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements:

a. Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Psychology, or related field. Equivalent work experience may be substituted for educational requirements.

b. Certified Addiction Specialist designation is required if preferred education and preferred licensure in progress is not present.

c. Master's Degree in Counseling, Social Work, or Family Therapy is preferred.

d. LPCC or LSW designation is preferred.

e. Mental health experience is preferred.

f. Two (2) years' experience using individual and group counseling techniques.

g. Must have valid Colorado driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record if driving Harmony vehicle or driving for Harmony business.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

a. Ability to establish a therapeutic alliance with clients.

b. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of addiction and human behavior.

c. Proven advanced skills in facilitating individual/group counseling.

d. Proven ability to utilize motivational interviewing skills with clients.

e. Is teachable, can follow instructions and work in a team-oriented environment.

f. Personal maturity reflected by sound judgment and decision-making.

g. Ability to relate to coworkers with understanding in a realistically supportive manner.

h. Ability to relate with detachment and empathy to clients and their families.

i. Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal formats.

j. CPR and First Aid certified.

k. Authentic commitment to Harmony's mission and vision, actively working to further organizational objectives.

l. Engaging in family/collateral calls as needed.
