About the Role:

The Packaging Engineer designs product packaging to ensure product integrity and appeal under varying shipping and display conditions. The PE tests, analyzes, and selects materials for packaging based on durability and cost effectiveness. They also review and improve existing packaging designs. They ensure packaging complies with all regulations. Works on complex projects lending Technical Resources in a joint Customer / PakLab Team environment. Responsible for overall design and development of secondary and tertiary packaging components. Must have the ability to identify packaging issues and propose solutions. Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications of product to determine physical characteristics of item, special-handling and safety requirements, and type of materials required for packaging. Consults with R&D, purchasing, customer service, maintenance and production departments to determine costs and feasibility of producing proposed packaging. Responsible for carrying out any additional duties as requested by direct supervisor. Develops sketches, specifications, samples, and written analyses of proposed packaging in order to present design for approval. Responsible for all artwork approval processes. Maintains specification database for all packaging as well as all pallet patterns. Work to design or re-engineer packaging that can be sourced from multiple suppliers. Carry out maintenance test/fill test procedure for all new packaging. Works in conjunction with the Art, Marketing, Sales, and Engineering departments.

Responsibilities:

Qualifications:

- Must be proficient in Word, Excel, Windows XP, Power Point, Outlook, CAPE or TOPPS, Adobe Illustrator as well as understand a working manufacturing database.

- Knowledge and understanding of packaging design validation standards (ISO, ASTM, etc.), drafting and specification standards is essential.

- Should have experience in rapid prototyping.

- Must be able to demonstrate project management skills and experience, project management certification a plus.

- 2+ years in packaging development or consumer packaging or related field.

- BS in Packaging Engineering or Mechanical Engineering preferred.

- Demonstrable proficiency in CAD software is needed.

- Understanding of process improvement, quality improvement concepts are needed.
