POSITION SUMMARY The Program Officer will provide personalized guidance and mentorship to a caseload of undergraduate students as they move through the college application process and beyond. This role will connect students to available resources and support services, while ensuring access to programs tailored to their individual needs and goals. This position takes collaborative and holistic approaches to carry out College Success Foundation's (CSF) mission by offering empathetic and compassionate support to each student throughout their journey.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES The items listed in this section are the primary duties and responsibilities for this job and do not represent an exhaustive list.   • Cultivates strong interpersonal relationships with faculty, students, and advisors, fostering a positive and collaborative environment.
  • Consistently interacts with students throughout the academic year, either over the phone, in-person, or via video conferencing tools, to assess needs, provide coaching, and offer individualized support.
  • Partners with campus and community leaders to connect students to college resources, maximize student participation and success, and foster a sense of belonging among CSF scholars.
  • Stays up to date on admission requirements, trends, and available resources, to offer informed advice and strategies tailored to each student.
  • Analyzes resources needed for successful program execution, and manages metrics associated with student outreach and organizational deadlines.
  • Monitors student academic progress, school attendance, program participation, and grade level progress.
  • Utilizes insights gained from Fostering Success Coaching Institute (FSCI) classes, to improve mentorship skills and evaluate and increase student engagement as needed.
  • Establishes clear communication channels and boundaries with students, while also being available after hours to provide effective support, especially for students from underserved communities who may have limited availability during regular school hours.
  • Regularly meets with internal staff to discuss events and opportunities for development for CSF's programs and the pathway to college completion.
  • Plans, promotes, and executes student events and workshops on and off campus to make connections, build relationships, and provide information.
  • Works with community stakeholders to identify and address systemic barriers to ensure equitable access for students to educational resources and opportunities.
  • Develops and deepens an understanding of the principles of equity and justice, applies the principles, and serves as a champion, role model, and active participant for equity and justice activities, programs, and initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience The items listed below are the minimum requirements for the job and are relevant to this position. The organization values both work experience and education and realizes that individuals take different paths to acquire knowledge.
  • Three years of relevant professional experience such as student services, program development, or mentoring in a non-profit sector.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and age groups.
  • Alumni of CSF programming and scholarship recipients preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Education, Psychology, or relevant field, preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the necessary qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position will be considered.
Knowledge and Skills.
  • Knowledge of campus and community resources.
  • Knowledge of college systems such as enrollment processes and financial aid.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the barriers encountered by students from underrepresented racial/ethnic groups.
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and administrative skills.
  • Handles sensitive information in a confidential manner.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to engage with students, families, educators, and community stakeholders.
  • Flexible and adaptive to meet the diverse needs of scholars.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Outlook, Excel, and Word, as well as knowledge of collaborative online meeting tools such as Teams and Zoom.
  • Familiarity with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software, such as Salesforce, for data analysis and reporting.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proactive approach while working independently and adapting to changing priorities and frequent interruptions.
  • Manage and fulfill compounding and competing deadlines.
  • Works collaboratively with CSF staff, colleagues, and other partners.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, respecting individual differences and serving diverse populations.
  • Initiative to learn and enhance skills that promote equity and an understanding of oppression and its impact on underserved populations.

Professional Certifications and Licenses

  • Microsoft Office Certificate preferred.
  • FSCI Level I and II Certification a plus.
  • Motivational Interviewing Certification a plus.

  • Operate office equipment such as a computer, printer, and copier.
  • Sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • This position requires Washington state residents if assigned to a Washington based location. If this position is assigned to a District of Columbia based location, the resident must reside in the District of Columbia.
  • Move to and from meetings across college campuses.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds during event planning and set up.
  • Perceive, inspect, and assess data at close range.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Role operates in a moderately quiet office environment.
  • Uses collaborative software for communicating with others and attending virtual meetings.
  • After-hours availability, including weekends, is required for meetings, student check-ins, training, and conferences.
  • Regional travel is required for meetings on a variety of college campuses, which may include multiple transportation methods such as a car or ferry.
  • Reliable transportation required.
