Description

Clemson University Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position of Strategic Assessment Librarian. This position works in a collaborative library environment to plan, promote, and sustain a culture of assessment across the Libraries and articulate the value of academic library services.

Clemson Libraries faculty are members of the academic community, with responsibilities in the areas of librarianship, scholarship, and service. This is a 12-month tenure-track faculty position and works under the direction of the Associate Dean for Organizational Performance and Administration.

The Strategic Assessment Librarian assumes a leadership role in planning, implementing, and sustaining an assessment program for Clemson University Libraries. The librarian will identify and assess meaningful organizational performance indicators for improvement, including establishing procedures and monitoring all reporting mechanisms.

The individual will lead strategic assessment across all divisions and work closely with department heads and librarians to pursue data-driven insight on library operations and user experiences, including collections, facilities, instruction, and library technology. This position requires a high degree of collaboration across the Libraries and works closely with the library’s Strategic Directions Facilitator to ensure alignment with the library’s strategic plan and the university’s strategic plan (Clemson Elevate).

Responsibilities include:

  • Administer and design custom assessment instruments, such as surveys, focus groups, interviews, rubrics, balanced scorecards, and internal data collection forms.
  • Complete required reporting such as IPEDS, SACSCOC, etc.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness at Clemson to ensure alignment with university assessment.
  • Compile data and crafting presentations to demonstrate the library's value to stakeholders, internally and externally.
  • Engage in professional development, such as attending conferences, workshops, and webinars related to job functions.
  • Participate in campus planning and assessment committees and integrating with the university data system,
  • Communicate and collaborate with related organizations such as ASERL, ARL, ITHAKA S R, etc., for assessment and benchmarking activities

Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activities

  • Develop a focused program of high-quality research and creative accomplishments that is consistent with professional responsibilities and the Libraries’ mission and goals.

Service

  • Actively participates and demonstrates leadership in professional responsibilities that serve the Libraries, university, profession, and community.

Clemson University is a major, land-grant, science and engineering-oriented Carnegie Research One university in a college town setting along a dynamic Southeastern corridor. Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • An ALA-accredited graduate degree in librarianship or a relevant accredited graduate degree in another scholarly field as deemed appropriate by the Libraries
  • Proven record of conducting library assessment projects and applying research methods (i.e., qualitative and quantitative research design methods)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of processes and software tools for collecting, analyzing, reporting and visualizing data
  • Experience creating custom dashboards, or significant experience in Tableau or other data visualization platforms.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member to solve problems, using sound judgment in decision-making according to an established timeframe.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least two years of post-MLS/MLIS experience as an assessment librarian or coordinator
  • Knowledge of project management applications such as Jira, or other
  • Demonstrated ability utilizing software for data organization and analysis (e.g., Excel, Access, SPSS, Springshare, or NVivo)
  • Experience with grant applications and IRB processes

Salary and Benefits

Faculty rank and minimum salary of $75,000 based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience. Various medical plans, dental plans, and retirement plans are available. 18 days annual leave, 15 days sick leave, 13 paid holidays, and liberal professional development leave are provided. Library faculty receive an individual stipend for travel or other professional development activity.
