Job Description:

The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) at Portland State University seeks outstanding candidates for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor, with research and teaching interests in electric power systems.


The position will work closely with other members of theECEDepartment and Maseeh College interdisciplinary research focused on areas with electric power systems engineering such as power system modeling and data science, power systems cybersecurity, or protection and control. Other power engineering areas will also be considered.


The position will build a research and teaching program through actions that contribute to the Departments aims to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion within theECEDepartment. It will develop and maintain scholarly funded research; teach undergraduate and graduate courses; advise students; and provide service to the university, professional societies, and the public.


The position will initiate a research program that can be sponsored by external funding agencies. This program should expand, complement, and collaborate with the existing research activities in theECEDepartment and/or build connections within the broader community. Research should also align with thepriorities and goals of the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Scienceand/or thestrategic vision of theECEDepartment.


TheECEDepartment, building on existing strengths, is expanding its research and teaching in power engineering. Our faculty strive for excellence in teaching and they constructively engage with the regional electric power industry. Emphasis is placed on research originality, future potential, ability to collaborate, and research agendas that are regionally relevant and complement our existing research programs.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering, or Electrical & Computer Engineering or related discipline.
  • Non-Ph.D. applicants will be required to have completed the Ph.D. by September 15, 2025
