MEP Coordinator / CX Startup Professional

We are seeking an experienced MEP Coordinator / CX Startup Professional to manage hyper-scale data center construction projects. This role demands expertise in data center construction practices, processes, and coordination across multiple teams. You will collaborate with general contractors, architects, engineers, commissioning agents, and third-party vendors to ensure the seamless startup and commissioning of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

As a Senior MEP Coordinator, you will take charge of equipment startup and commissioning activities-planning, directing, coordinating vendors, and monitoring performance. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong leadership, thorough knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems in data centers, and an acute attention to detail. Strong communication, negotiation, computer proficiency, and problem-solving skills are essential to succeed in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

- Oversee field operations related to equipment energization and commissioning, ensuring safety, quality control, adherence to schedule, conformance to drawings and specifications, and maintaining excellent client relations.

- Develop comprehensive work plans, load bank strategies, schedules, status reports, and manage timelines.

- Set project objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards, and ensure they are implemented on-site while enforcing safety protocols among the project staff.

- Lead and develop high-performance teams through effective supervision, training, coaching, and mentoring, fostering positive leadership to drive change.

- Manage vendor integration within the project scope and ensure contractor work meets design specifications.

- Regularly update management on project progress during scheduled operations review meetings.

- Maintain clear, concise, and professional communication with clients to resolve project issues efficiently.

- Establish and maintain strong business relationships with clients, demonstrating excellent customer relations.

- Resolve technical issues by engaging with technical teams and collaborating with development teams to identify limitations and implement solutions.

- Regularly interface with the AE (architect-engineer) team and project owners.

Qualifications:

- Education & Experience:

- Bachelor's degree preferred but not necessary.

- 8-10 years of experience as a Project Manager, Owner's Representative, MEP Coordinator, or equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience.

- Expertise: Strong knowledge of data center commissioning, mechanical/electrical equipment startup, and energization.

- Industry Knowledge: Extensive experience building hyper scale data center systems, including HVAC, electrical, fire protection, security, EPMS, and BAS.

- Construction Acumen: In-depth understanding of construction cost management, scheduling, estimating, procurement, and engineering principles.

- Commissioning Experience: Hands-on experience with commissioning phases L0-L5, covering equipment receipt, startup, validation, and turnover in fast-paced data center projects.

- Technical Proficiency: Ability to interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, and project schedules.

- Leadership & Independence: Demonstrated ability to manage and lead complex projects independently with minimal supervision.

- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

- Team Player: A collaborative attitude with a proven track record of managing first- and second-tier subcontractors successfully.
