Department/Program Description:

The Center for Comparative Studies in Race & Ethnicity's (CCSRE) mission is to advance racial equity through interdisciplinary education, innovative research, and community engagement. The Center houses an interdisciplinary academic program, a Research Institute, and multiple initiatives that engage Stanford scholars and students as well as the broader community. CCSRE's work is comparative and interdisciplinary, supporting initiatives in Asian American, Native American, Chicana/o-Latina/o, and Jewish Studies. Our curriculum and programming are at the forefront of scholarly and social understandings of how race works and why it matters. CCSRE also plays a crucial role in recruiting, cultivating, and retaining leading Stanford scholars. The Center's undergraduate curriculum, Ph.D. Minor, and graduate fellowship programs provide robust training in race studies. The Center leads programs that support and convene practitioners, researchers, and students in the development of impactful work advancing racial equity.

Position Summary: The Center for Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity is seeking a Student Services Officer (SSO). The SSO is responsible for administering student services for five undergraduate programs with over 100 declared majors and minors as well as for a Ph.D. Minor program with over 30 graduate students. In addition to advising and supporting current majors and minors, the SSO may train and supervise undergraduate student employees and coordinate undergraduate events, programs, and publicity campaigns. The SSO works directly with faculty, staff, and lecturers across all five of the Center's interdisciplinary programs (Asian American Studies, Chicana/o-Latina/o Studies, Native American Studies, Jewish Studies, and CSRE) to ensure courses are accurately listed and updated in accordance with the needs of the faculty director and instructor of record. As the CCSRE staff member who works directly with every major and minor on their academic plan, the SSO holds crucial knowledge about student needs and serves as a thought partner to the Faculty Directors and broader Academic Programs team in supporting the design and implementation of a student-centered CCSRE curriculum.

The SSO must possess and demonstrate a positive outlook on continuous process improvement efforts while maintaining a team-based and student-focused mindset. It is critical that this position exhibit the abilities to practice sound judgment and decision-making, effective written & oral communication, strong attention to detail and respectful relationship management. This is a 100% FTE, continuing, exempt position. This position will be based on the Stanford campus and will be considered for an option of telecommuting (hybrid of working on-site and off-site), subject to operational need.
