SUMMARY



Bering Global Solutions, a subsidiary of Bering Straits Native Corporation is currently seeking a qualified Shift Supervisor/Captain for the SSP at the Navy Contract NAVSEA location in Washington DC Navy Yard. The Captain position is an hourly SCA position requiring a Secret clearance and is a uniformed & armed supervisor reporting directly to the Site Manager/Major and is responsible for multiple subordinates. The post is manned eight (8) hours per day, four or five days per week, schedules will be adjusted based on staffing and operational needs.

Responsibilities




ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES



The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position, and are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides supervision and leadership to all security contract personnel assigned to their scheduled shift at NAVSEA. Contract security personnel are responsible for maintaining all security measures during all FPCON levels to include; protection of life and property; perform Antiterrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP) duties: defend the post and render first aid services as required.
  • The Captain is responsible to monitor/evaluate his/her assigned personnel to ensure they are knowledgeable of their assigned duties, present a professional appearance and demeanor in line with contract and post order requirements.
  • Increase security checks during civil unrest, natural disasters, or other emergencies.
  • Assist in the development of contingency plans, confrontation management instructions, and disaster preparedness plans to include additional security protection for AA&E and SCIFs.
  • Conduct security exercises to evaluate reactions of the Control Center Alarm Monitors and responding security force personnel.
  • Test security force personnel on their response to natural disasters, threats and alarmed facilities.
  • Ensure assigned personnel maintain required certifications.
  • Ensure all property and equipment is accounted for at the start/end of shift and properly documented. Discrepancies will be immediately reported to the Site Manager and Project Manager.
  • Ensure weapons and equipment are properly cleaned and serviceable.
  • Conduct roll call, issue weapons and equipment. Inspecting personnel to ensure they are in compliance with uniform and grooming requirements, disseminate information and training/job knowledge reviews.


Qualifications




QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION



To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.



Required (Minimum) Qualifications


  • Must have a final SECRET security clearance.
  • 2 Years of verifiable experience as a supervisor with a comparable number of subordinates and as an armed security officer in any of the following areas: civilian community law enforcement, military service law enforcement, commercial guard service, or industrial security guard service. Must be able to compose records and reports, which convey complete information.
  • Proven ability to exercise good judgment. Requires little or no supervision to perform their assigned duties quickly, quietly, efficiently and on-time. Skills in training, indoctrination, planning and evaluating personnel and work quality.
  • Must not have a record of any security violations, arrests, or conviction other than for minor traffic violations.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics


  • Must be able to maintain all training certifications (CPR, First Aid, Baton, Weapons).
  • Possess a valid automobile drivers license (all positions herein may require the use of a motor vehicle).
  • Good interpersonal relationship skills with peers, subordinates and client staff, visitors and employees, that promotes the successful functioning of client operations in a secure and demanding environment.
  • Capable of conducting him/herself in an efficient, businesslike, professional manner at all times.
  • Read, write and speak English fluently.
  • Proven ability to exercise good judgment in stressful situations.
  • Skills in training, indoctrination, planning, evaluating, discipline and scheduling personnel to maintain work quality and meet operational requirements.




PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS



The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must maintain a constant state of mental alertness at all times.


Must pass a physical examination given by a licensed physician or health care professional before assignment and annually thereafter. Shall be in good physical condition; be able to protect themselves and others; and withstand sudden emotional stress and physical exertion in apprehension of suspects and violators. Pursuit may be on foot, requiring running, jumping, climbing, and/or crawling, followed by physical contact to overpower the violator as necessary. Must be able to pass a Physical Fitness Readiness Test before assignment and semi-annually thereafter.



WORK ENVIRONMENT



Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.


Job is primarily performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, multi-line telephone system and radio communications. Outdoor duty and exposure to the elements will occur daily. Routine post inspections, roving the facilities and areas of responsibility.



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Manages the NAVSEA Site when the Site Manager is absent and supervises direct reports and subordinates.


ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS



As a condition of employment, will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results to obtain access to military base. Must have reliable transportation to/from work a necessity and must be able to obtain access to military installations.
