Job Description:
NDCS employs nearly 2,300 team members operating nine institutions, which house approximately 5,200 inmates, statewide. The department's focus includes inmate programming and education, physical and behavioral health care, re-entry services, and community programs, and is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA). DUTIES:
Enter, analyze, review/pre-audit and approve various expenditure payment types, journal entries, deposits and other AP and AR transactions as needed. Enter data in various billing systems/databases. Generate, extract, compile, organize and analyze financial data from vouchers, ledgers, journals and other accounting documents and databases to develop and prepare spreadsheets, reports, statements and other financial documents or files. This position will communicate with vendors, agency personnel and other agencies to answer inquiries and clarify any matters that may be in question.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Post high school coursework or vocational education in accounting, finance, business administration or related field OR experience performing accounting functions including interpreting and analyzing financial data.
PREFERRD QUALIFICATIONS: Associates Degree in Accounting or Finance field; proficiency with Microsoft Office including Excel. Computer and data entry experience including Enterprise One (E1).

Knowledge of: the principles and practices of double entry accounting concepts and procedures; clerical accounting methods, forms and techniques; the methods of filing and maintaining accounting records; mathematical functions related to accounting processes; word processing and spreadsheet computer software programs.
Skill in: gathering and compiling data into spreadsheets or data bases; strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities; excellent communication; working independently, multi-tasking and making independent decisions.
