The Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL) at the University of Illinois Urbana- Champaign is accepting applications for a Teaching and Learning Specialist. This position specializes in supporting instruction and elevating teaching practices across modalities. As part of the Teaching and Learning Strategies Team, the Teaching and Learning Specialist will play a pivotal role in enhancing the overall learning experience at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. This position focuses on supporting faculty through classroom observations, providing formative feedback and assisting with course design and adoption of best practices in teaching and learning. The Teaching and Learning Specialist will champion inclusive teaching practices ensuring diverse perspectives and student needs are reflected in pedagogical strategies and course content.



Duties & Responsibilities



Conducting Teaching Observations
• Develop and implement formative evaluation tools and methods.
• Conduct classroom observations to assess teaching practices and learning environments.
• Provide detailed, constructive feedback to faculty members based on observations.
• Collaborate with faculty to design and implement strategies for improving instructional effectiveness.
• Support faculty in conducting self-reflection and peer observations to align with the campus-wide teaching evaluation system.


Fostering Teaching Excellence
• Facilitate workshops, seminars, and training sessions on best teaching practices.
• Assist in the development and revision of instructional materials and resources.
• Stay updated with current research and trends in teaching and learning to provide informed recommendations.
• Support the integration of technology and innovative teaching methods in the classroom.
• Collaborate with instructors to address challenges and develop solutions that promote student success and engagement.


Promoting Engaging and Inclusive Learning Environments
• Work with diverse groups of faculty, students, and staff to promote inclusive teaching practices.
• Encourage the adoption of culturally responsive teaching methods.
• Support initiatives to enhance student engagement and belonging.
• Provide support and resources for faculty to create accessible learning environments in accordance with Title II regulations.
• Advocate for practices that foster equity and inclusivity in the classroom.



Positions Qualifications



Required-


• Master's degree.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience teaching at higher education institutions.
• Demonstrated experience providing faculty support and training.
• Demonstrated experience with educational technology and digital learning tools.


Preferred-


• Doctorate.
• Demonstrated experience working with Learning Management Systems.


Successful candidates will have the following-


• Strong knowledge of pedagogical theories, instructional design, and assessment methods.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to provide constructive feedback and support to educators.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse academic community.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills



Appointment Information


This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search. The salary
range for this position is $60,000-$72,000. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of these elements. Work authorization sponsorship is not available for this position.
