Job Title: Dredge Operator

Department: Production

Reports to: Production Supervisor

SUMMARY

Drives and operates mechanical or hydraulic dredge to produce sand and gravel from inland pits or waterways by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned

Perform a pre-shift inspection and complete daily safety check.

Keep a clean and safe work area.

Operate dredge, plant and pumps for maximum efficiency

Perform all aspects of dredge, plant and pipeline maintenance.

Maintain dredge to appropriate company and governmental safety regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to run and perform maintenance on the wash plant and dredge.

Ability to maintain and build a pipeline

Ability to work on cable wenches.

Knowledge and understanding of all working parts and aspects of the dredge and plant.

Ability to work all gauges and valves on dredge and in plant.

Ability to dismantle and repair pumps.

Ability to operate a small boat.

Ability to run front end loader

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.
