At a high level, this is a niche Engineer role in which we are looking for a candidate with experience specifically handling and designing systems for tritium handling. This is a key component of our accelerator technology.

Description

Seine Client is seeking a Tritium Engineer to lead the design, development, procurement, installation, and commissioning of advanced tritium systems for our medical isotope production facilities and fusion development projects. The Tritium Engineer works as part of a collaborative team that is at the forefront of bringing new nuclear technology and medical isotopes to market.

Seine Client engineers are designing systems that will help diagnose heart disease, treat cancer, and take us another step closer to clean energy.

Your experience should include an understanding of some combination of the fundamentals of catalysis, reactor separations, metal hydride storage materials, neutronic modeling & analysis or wet chemistry synthesis. Familiarity handling and separating gases would be valuable.

Qualified candidates should have experience working directly with tritium, orvacuum systems, cryogenic systems, and/or hydrogen unit operations that include purification in either a radiological facility or working in oil & gas or similar industry.

Interested candidates must either have a background in Tritium System design or have related experience and want to grow their knowledge while developing next generation Tritium systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Specific duties and responsibilities of the Tritium Engineer include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead the technical direction of projects as the responsible engineer for design, qualification and installation tasks to drive tritium system designs forward.
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, nuclear and software engineers/scientists in defining and documenting system architecture and design, operational scenarios, and workflows.
  • Support licensing activities for Seine Client tritium systems including the State of Wisconsin Authorized User duties, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission license and local regulatory commissions in other countries.
  • Work with the accelerator team to assure that tritium is delivered to the DT-fusion system.
  • Work collaboratively with Seine Client team members and external stakeholders to ensure design conforms to all license, safety, and operational standards.
  • Prepare technical engineering documents, review design drawings, and prepare/review calculations that support the design.
  • Gain hands-on tritium handling experience on our existing tritium purification system serving the Fusion Linear Accelerator for Radiation Effects (FLARE) system.
  • Identify and incorporate lessons learned into the design and fabrication for future systems.
  • Assist with the preparation of operation procedures for the safe handling of tritium.
  • Work closely with Seine Client third-party suppliers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant engineering (chemical, mechanical, nuclear, etc.), physics or related technical discipline. Advanced degree is a plus. (BS 4+ years' relevant experience, MS +3 years' relevant experience, or PhD 2+ years' relevant experience).
  • Experience working with tritium and/or designing systems that safely store and handle gaseous tritium is a plus.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: catalysis, reactor operation design, metal hydride storage material, or wet chemistry synthesis is desirable.
  • Proficiency in the relevant modeling and characterization methods.
  • Neutronic analysis using Monte Carlo N-Particle Transport Code (MNCP) experience is a plus.
  • Ability to think strategically and take decisive action once the necessary information has been gathered.
  • Knowledge of tritium regulations for shipping, licensure, use, and disposal are a plus.
  • Experience with TCAP (Thermal Cycling Absorption Process) or cryogenic distillation is desirable.
  • Experience with getter beds, cryogenic separation of gasses, vacuum systems, gloveboxes or hydrogen absorption materials is a plus.

Eligibility for employment is conditioned on the applicant's ability to qualify for access to information subject to U.S. Export Controls. Additionally, applicant's eligibility may be conditioned based upon meeting the Nuclear Regulatory Commission requirements for access to Safeguards Information, which typically requires a pre-employment drug screen, fingerprinting and criminal background check.
