Job Description:

Job Title: Mechanical Designer - Material Handling & Vitrification Systems

Role Overview:

As a Mechanical Designer, you will be part of the Mechanical Handling team, working on the design and development of material handling equipment, treatment, and vitrification systems, as well as supporting utilities. This role involves preparing 3D models, detailed drawings, design proposals, and simulations. You will interface with other engineering disciplines and coordinate the design with the client.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with engineers to understand design requirements for new or existing mechanical systems.
  • Create and update 2D/3D drawings and models using CAD software such as Solidworks, Microstation, and IGRIP, ensuring designs align with specifications and client standards.
  • Develop designs that comply with company regulations and client values.
  • Use Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs) and appropriate CAD and CAE tools (e.g., Solidworks, IGRIP, Microstation) to perform design work.
  • Support equipment procurement by preparing procurement packages, reviewing quotations, evaluating technical aspects, and resolving issues with vendor submittals.

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications:
  • Grade 23: BS degree in Mechanical, Mechanical Technology, Chemical, or Nuclear Engineering from an accredited institution with one year of relevant experience.
  • Grade 24: BS degree in Mechanical, Mechanical Technology, Chemical, or Nuclear Engineering from an accredited institution with three years of relevant experience.
  • Must be eligible to work in the US without visa sponsorship.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if required at the site), and background check.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in engineering and design software, with experience in 2D and 3D CAD applications.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Knowledge of industry codes, standards, and regulations relevant to complex engineering work.
  • Familiarity with preparing standard discipline deliverables and understanding of engineering budgets and schedules.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or equivalent in Mechanical, Chemical, or Nuclear Engineering.
  • Experience in equipment design and analysis in Department of Energy (DOE) or commercial nuclear facilities.

Compensation:
  • $45 - $62 per hour + per diem.
