Job Description:

About the Position: Saint Ignatius High School, a highly successful Catholic Jesuit college preparatory school for boys in Cleveland, Ohio, is seeking a Director of Strength and Conditioning. The Director of Strength and Conditioning must possess a demonstrated knowledge of techniques necessary to implement a high school-aged athletic development program for highly competitive student athletes and teams. This should include experience with, anthropometric and performance testing, periodization principles, free and Olympic weight training techniques, flexibility training, integration of applicable recovery strategies, corrective exercise and speed development programs. The ideal candidate will be a well-rounded and engaging person who will facilitate growth and collaboration inside and outside of the weight room.

Primary Areas of Responsibility:

  • Independently design, categorize and implement sport-specific speed, power, conditioning, and resistance programs for the following sports: football, soccer, basketball, hockey, swim & dive, baseball, lacrosse & sprinters (track & field) yearly
  • Schedule and oversee/supervise the weight room
  • Manage the Strength and Conditioning department; Associate Director, Assistant Strength Coach and interns
  • Teach Student Athletes proper technique and equipment use
  • Maintain training facilities
  • Collaborate with Coaches
  • Serve on athletics department teams
  • Report to Athletic Director
  • Participate in weekly and monthly projects
  • Support professional growth through the internship program

Qualifications:

  • NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or CSCCA Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field; Master's degree preferred
  • Certified in First Aid and CPR
  • Collegiate playing and coaching experience preferred

About Saint Ignatius High School:

Saint Ignatius High School, which opened its doors on September 6, 1886, is a Jesuit college-preparatory school. The school enrolls more than 1,400 young men who hail from 92 cities in an 11-county region. Located in close proximity to downtown Cleveland in the vibrant and energetic Ohio City neighborhood, the school occupies 23 acres and includes 19 buildings and three athletic fields. The school has 114 faculty members, 89 percent of whom hold advanced degrees. Fifty-six percent have spent 10 years or more teaching at Saint Ignatius.

Saint Ignatius is also home to The Welsh Academy, a middle school for boys from local families of modest economic means, founded in 2019. The Academy enrolls more than 60 boys in grades 6-8 and occupies Kesicki Hall on campus.

Academically, Saint Ignatius is a regional and state leader in National Merit finalists. To challenge students and prepare them for college, the Saint Ignatius curriculum offers 17 Advanced Placement (AP) and 21 honors subjects.
