Job Description:

Job Summary:

The Director of Development is responsible for leading and implementing the fundraising and marketing strategies for Second Helpings Atlanta, a nonprofit food rescue and hunger relief organization. This individual will be responsible for devising and executing comprehensive fundraising initiatives, meeting annual fundraising goals, building strong relationships with donors and sponsors, and overseeing marketing and communication efforts to increase brand awareness and engagement. A successful candidate will have previous experience in development and a proven track record of fundraising results.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to set annual fundraising targets and create and implement an annual fundraising plan that incorporates multiple funding sources (individuals, foundations, corporations, faith-based organizations, government grants, earned revenue, federated giving, employee giving, major donors, etc.), giving appropriate priority to each effort.
  • Identify and prioritize funding opportunities, including individual giving, corporate partnerships, grants, events, and campaigns.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective donors, sponsors, and supporters.
  • Manage a portfolio of major donors, cultivating their engagement and deepening their commitment to SHA's mission.
  • Create and execute an annual fund communication calendar and solicitation plan for individual supporters.
  • Develop and execute stewardship strategies to ensure ongoing donor satisfaction and retention.
  • Utilize an established network of contacts to secure corporate sponsorships and funding partnerships while actively identifying and engaging potential corporate partners to foster mutually beneficial relationships.
  • Conduct thorough research to identify pertinent grant opportunities from foundations, government agencies, and various sources, and subsequently craft persuasive grant proposals, applications, and reports that showcase SHA's program impact and outcomes while also ensuring adherence to deadlines and reporting standards. Maintain budgets in line with organization guidelines.
  • Manage vendor relationships that support SHA's fundraising efforts.
  • Efficiently handle donor acknowledgments, cultivation, and stewardship communication while also overseeing, maintaining, and inputting data into SHA's fundraising database and tracking systems, including Salesforce, and managing the production of reports and dashboards for comprehensive monitoring of development activities.
  • Update and implement guidelines for donor stewardship and recognition.
  • Plan and execute fundraising and community events, including our signature Full Plates Full Hearts fundraiser and Fall Fundraiser, securing sponsorships, and managing volunteers, staff, vendors, and board members.
  • Develop and execute an integrated marketing and communications strategy that enhances SHA's brand visibility and supports fundraising goals.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment of messaging and campaigns.
  • Oversee the organization's digital presence, including the website, social media platforms, email campaigns, and online fundraising efforts.
  • Create engaging and compelling content that highlights the organization's impact, stories, and initiatives.
  • Manage development, marketing, and communications staff, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborate closely with other departments to ensure consistent, cohesive messaging across all organizational activities.
  • Provide staff support for the board development committee, assisting in the coordination of board meetings and actively participating in their attendance.
  • Serve as a representative of Second Helpings Atlanta at meetings and events.
  • Coordinate and execute special projects.
  • Other related assignments as necessary.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree (Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Social Entrepreneurship; other equivalences considered)
  • 8+ years of fundraising experience overseeing $2m+ in revenue through foundations, special events, and major gifts.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage teams, guide staff, and provide professional development.
  • Knowledge of the Atlanta philanthropic and business communities.
  • Established network of contacts within the City of Atlanta and the surrounding metro area.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, a poised public presence, and a demonstrated ability to exercise sensitivity and good judgment.
  • Ability to effectively speak and present to individuals, including high net-worth donors, executive corporate management, and small, mid-size, and large groups.
  • Proven track record of meeting fundraising goals and building successful donor relationships.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including grant writing and proposal development.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects with varying priorities at one time.
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout the market and work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Familiarity with digital marketing platforms, including websites, social media, and online fundraising efforts.
  • Detail-oriented, flexible, and committed to meeting deadlines.

Location: Primarily in the 970 Jefferson St. NW, Atlanta, GA 30318 office. Occasional in-state travel to meetings and events.

Schedule: 40 hours standard weekly, typically Monday - Friday. Occasional evenings or weekend hours may be required.
